Is there anyplace which has the expected Box Office gross of upcoming movies ? Like how much studios expect a movie to make ?
Not how much they WANT it to make, but how much they EXPECT it to make ?

They have data on current movie grosses. I'm interested in the studio expections for movies that have not been released yet, or the expectations they had prior to the movie being released.

Why do you care? Have stock in the studios?

Boxofficemojo doesn't do box-office predictions anymore, for some reason.
Try www.boxofficereport.com or http://fantasymoguls.com/

I sincerely hope you're kidding with your response. Because as a member of DVDTalk since 1999, you should know that talking box-office is pretty common around here. If you're not (kidding), then do shut up.

And you can search my posts to see I'm an advocate of movie tracking by "units (sold) sold." CDs, books, everything else is charted based on units. We know how many CDs Coldplay sold last week, but it never even occurs to us to ask about the album's budget or revenue numbers.

Well, if it did, and you wanted to know, then ask. Which is exactly what wearetheborg did. If you asked what Coldplay's album budget was, then clearly you wanted to know. Plus, box-office expectations have always been discussed here as well as the final numbers.

What good would tickets sold tell you? If Iron Man tanked but then sold twenty million tickets at the dollar theater, it isn't going to get you a sequel. CDs = studio gets a set price back, Tickets = studio gets a percentage back.

It's like other "shows", you go off box office revenues, not how many asses are in seats.

Popularity. What have most people seen.

You know how people always cite that 'adjusted for inflation" stat showing the Gone with the Wind is still one of the most-seen films? ranking by tickets sold would eliminate all conversions and have a standard, universal ranking.

That's silly. If I had a $2 cinema near me and it was showing "Iron Man", I'd see it every night. At $12 a pop, I've only seen it twice. How can units sold be at all relevant?

How is it not? If you saw it every night, you'd help make it the "most-seen film of the year"

it's like TV ratings... ranks by eyeballs. 50 millions people watched this show, 13 million people saw that show. do you guys track the production budget and then advertising revenue of two and a half men?

But you aren't paying anything to watch TV, and how many of those people actually watched the ads?
