Just how many "band" games do we need?

I bought the first Guitar Hero, loved it.

I picked up Rock Band, and still love it and grab DLC quite often.

Before either one, I played Drummania at a local mall/arcade.

Now say what you will about Guitar Freaks and Drummania, I know they technically started all of this, but for console owners it started with Guitar Hero, and Rock Band took it to a new level. Anyway, Rock Band expanded on the idea, and it's going to be hard for another company to come out with something like that if you ask me.

We all know about Guitar Hero 4, coming out with drums also, but a few minutes ago I read about yet another game like that called Rock Revolution:

First off, straight down hurts my eyes, second, until they come out with a six-buttoned guitar they should just quit while they're ahead.

I only need Rock Band. I've lost interest in Guitar Hero and have no interest in Konami trying to reenter the space.

I am in the camp that wants as many great songs as possible. As long as my Les Paul is compatible, I will buy this day one. Great 80's songs on that trailer.

Three's a crowd. It being all cover songs makes it a pretty easy decision to pass on it. Two franchises offer enough variety for me. I enjoy both GH and RB equally and will continue to support both.

100% agree. I'll pick it up if there are at least a handful of songs I can't get on any of the other games.

Re: all the songs being covers- The first time I watched the clip, I was thinking "No One Like You" was an original and not a cover (it did sound a bit different but I thought maybe one of the dreaded live versions), but I watched it again and it's definitely a cover. The singer sounded surprisingly like Klaus Meine in a couple parts of that very brief glimpse, though.

Rock Revolution looks to be about 6 or 7 years behind the curve. It might fly if Guitar Hero and Rock Band never existed, but it just looks laughable by comparison. This thing is gonna bomb.

It's kind of a fad right now the way extreme sports games (Tony Hawk clones) were a few years ago, and like WWII first person shooters were or still are. Give it some time, and the "me too" games will fade.

Shit, I wouldn't have bought Rock Band if it had the original versions of all those crappy songs. Gameplay wise I would try it, but those songs are atrocious.

I like most of those songs, but the game doesn't look as fun as Rock Band or Guitar Hero. I prefer the way RB and GH scroll the notes, and their charts for some of those same songs, seem better than this one. Also, all cover songs sucks.

Well I think the setlist sounds awesome. They had "Am I Evil" by Metallica which is just crazy.

It's interesting that there isn't a single solo or even a quick lead break shown in that clip. I don't mind the top down view at all, but I'll still probably pass on the game.

Am I Evil isn't a Metallica tune it's by a band called DiamondHead. From the sounds of it in the video, it sounded like the DH version.

Not that anyone probably cares about this game, but man those drums look really, really small.

I am still going to probably get this (game only) on release because of the Pantera, Dream Theater, Quiet Riot, etc...

If a mod could retitle this thread to "Rock Revolution" for search purposes, that would be helpful. Thanks!

Here is 75% of the song list so far. Way too many carryovers from other games but still some good gems in there...

Scorpions - No One Like You
Quiet Riot - Cum on Feel the Noize
Skid Row - Youth Gone Wild
Motley Crue - Dr. Feelgood
Heart - Magic Man
Diamond Head - Am I Evil (could be Metallica)
Whitesnake - Still of the Night
Soundgarden - Spoonman
Ramones - Blitzkrieg Bop
Kiss - Detroit Rock City
Twisted Sister - We're Not Gonna Take It
Blink-182 - All the Small Things
System of a Down - Chop Suey
Iron Maiden - Run to the Hills
Wolfmother - Joker and the Thief
Foo Fighters - All My Life
Korn - Falling Away from Me
Papa Roach - Last Resort
The Killers - Somebody Told Me
Fall Out Boy - Dance, Dance
The Who - Won't Get Fooled Again
Avril Lavigne - Sk8er Boi
Jet - Are You Gonna Be My Girl
Muse - Knights of Cydonia
Finger Eleven - Paralyzer
Joan Jett - Bad Reputation
Jimmy Eat World - Pain
Pantera - Walk
Ratt - Round and Round
Dream Theater - Pull Me Under
Deep Purple - Highway Star
The All-American Rejects - Dirty Little Secret

I like alot of those songs, if there's a game only version, and you can use the GH controller, I might check it out.

Why are those people so bad at that song, it looks super easy.

It has been confirmed you can use the other guitars from other releases (and she is using a LP in the video).

And I am pretty sure we are getting closer to 100% compatiblity because GH Aerosmith was compatible with the RB guitar.

But, I agree, business 101....if you are going to show off a product...it would do you good to hire Rabbit or someone that knows what they are doing. It looks better and makes the product more enticing than watching someone butcher an easy Ramones song on medium difficulty.

Way too many songs that are already in other games. I'll pass even at a discount if the other 25% is more of the same.

ahh fuck. I was going to sit this one out but if GH and RB don't hook me up with Pull Me Under I'll have to at least give this a rental.

Are you losing faith in the rumored GH:WT list? Even if it isn't there, DT is still in RB2. DLC is always likely. Don't sell your soul for this one song.

I'll get RB2 and GH:WT, but other than that I'm holding out for Frankie and Al: The Yankovic Accordian Experience.
