Chuck Palahniuk's "Snuff"
Just thought I'd start a discussion thread for Chuck's upcoming book, Snuff, hitting stores on 5/20. The promotional material for this is some of the most unique I've seen yet for a book. I can't post the promo vid because of forum rules, but here's a link to Cassie Wright's(the fictitious porn star in Snuff) mySpace page with "trailers" for 3 of her movies - 1 trailer is available now, but 2 more are coming in the next week or so. Great stuff if you've got a warped sense of humor like me.
I was fortunate enough to read an advance copy of the book a few months ago and loved it - it was classic, vintage Chuck and I'm curious about other people's thoughts on the book as they read it. Anyone else excited for this? I'm a little bummed because he's not coming to Boston on this tour - I might have to make a trek down to NY this time.

I've got my copy pre-ordered from St. Helens book shop, so it should come autographed and personalized
CHuck fell out of my favor with Haunted/Lullaby/Diary, but totally redeemed himself with Rant so I ordered Snuff. Can't wait for it to show up!

L&O - thanks for pointing them out. I've got signed 1st of Choke, Lullaby, and Diary and am pleased to be able to get Snuff, as well. I fell asleep at the wheel for the releases in between I had unsigned 1st ed of Fight Club & Survivor that I had to sell due to economic circumstances so I may eventually pick those up from them, as well, even though they aren't 1st.

I'm guessing the reason for so few tour stops is because of the subject matter of the book which, IMO, isn't all that bad. All the adult content is, for the most part, played for comic effect with tongue firmly in cheek. I'll be curious to see how Snuff sells in comparison to his other books.

There's a fantastic trailer for the movie that is in the book which is barely NSFW, so I posted in over at XC:

I liked it better than the time-travel weirdness of "Rant" or the wicker-man/harvest schtick in "Diary," but it wasn't as good as "Fight Club," "Survivor" or "Choke."
Also, he seems to have moved out of the realm of self-destuctive stuff people actually do, like underground fighting, religious fanaticism and sex addiction in favor of quirky shit nobody does, like the rabies-seeking and the food with dangerous shit cooked into it in "Rant" and the weird, extremely-precise model ghetto building in "Snuff."

On a related note, I am kind of pissed that he is no longer personalizing books. He'll be showing up with a limited number of pre-signed books, and he will not be signing after the readings, at least not in big cities where crowds show up for his readings. That means you either have to wait to try to buy a signed (and not personalized) copy at the reading or you have to buy a second copy. I usually buy his stuff in hardcover, and I just bought the e-book this time, and saved $7 and having to wait until morning to read it

I really liked Rant. His best since Lullaby, which was also quite great. So I am eagerly looking forward to Snuff.
I've liked all of his books. Even Diary, and from what I've read of Haunted, the stories where decent, definitely his weakest stuff, but still enjoyable.
Am I the only one that doesn't think that highly of Choke? I liked it, but I think it's one of his weakest post-Fight-Club-the-movie books.

The St Helen's book shop that L&O mentioned is selling personalized copies. You can choose for just an autographed one or get personalization.

2008 Snuff Book Tour
Just got back from the first stop in his Snuff Tour 2008 in Ann Arbor. Wow, what an event!
Chuck is hilarious. I got a signed copy of SNUFF, as well as a signed copy of Fugitives & Refugees (it was the only book I had never gotten around to getting of his). He read an unreleased short story that he apparently has only read publicly once, called Loser, which is essentially about The Price is Right, and it had the crowd rolling. Great stuff. He also spoke a bit about his next book for 2009, Pygmy
Also, Chuck tossed a ton of autographed blow-up sex dolls to the audience and I was fortunate enough to get one of those as well. I also go an autographed plush dog haha. Odd i know, but great great fun.
Oh yea... how could i forget the Choke bookmark i got with anal beads attached to it instead of a tassle. Classic Palahniuk stuff. The Choke bookmark was given out to promote the movie. We got to see a scene from the film as well as the complete theatrical trailer. It looks great, cannot wait.
Chuck also said that Lullaby is likely going to be the next film, with production to start before the year's end. Apparently an Academy Award winning actor loves the book and has signed on to produce AND star in the film (he couldnt say who). I was shocked, because I was almost certain it would be Survivor. (Although Chuck said that it is definitely coming someday).
Anyway, ask questions as youd like, i'll try to answer what i can.

I've been kind of out of the loop lately with Palahniuk. I finally finished Rant last week, and was poking around the net, and was surprised to find out he had another book out. I picked up Snuff and read it on the plane to Vegas.
I thought it was another fantastic Chuck book, although I liked Rant better.
I really hope an adaptation of Lullaby doesn't get messed up, the trailer for Choke wasn't very inspiring, but I'll give it a chance come August.
