sec walkin is fucking amazing though.
oh and i get a very jerry garcia vibe to jims vocals on this cd. not that thats a bad thing.

Damn I thought this band was on the cusp of becoming absolutely huge and it sounds like they didn't pull it off. The released track Evil Urges is awful. I thought they could have been the next Pearl Jam.

First impression of first couple listens is this is a tribute to 70's commercial radio. I hear traces of everything from Earth Wind and Fire to Boz Scaggs and The Rasberries. Highly Suspicious is the most radical thing I've heard with a Prince/Sly and the Family Stone vibe. The only band I don't hear much of a trace of is My Morning Jacket.

also someone above said they thought htey could become huge. i agreed with that also. to me they were on the verge of being the next big "pearl jam" esque band. huge following, playing arenas but not really having huge hits. they really are one of the best live acts out there right now. i saw them on their last tour and i dont thin ive smiled so much during a show in my life. i was lucky enough to see them with the chicago youth symphony orchestra for the encore too. it was amazing.

just listend to the new album....what the hell happened? jesus christ jim needs to stop doing whatever drugs he's doing and listening to whatever albums he's listening to and start smoking pot again and listening to "on the beach" and "pet sounds". this is the biggest let down of the year, thankfully that new fleet foxes album just came out last week.

I think they took the idea that they have to break ground on every album a little bit too seriously. I actually think there's a lot of good tunes on the album but they're done in the style of Prince, James Taylor and the Stylistics instead of My Morning Jacket. i liked them better when they were ripping off The Band and The Allman Brothers

So what album would everyone recommend as a starter? They fall into that "bands/artists I've put off getting into" and was considering getting the newest tomorrow. I guess not after reading this thread.

I'll go along with Okonokos. A great sampling of everything up to Z.

I'm about halfway through my first listen of Evil Urges, and I'm liking it. Feels like a natural progression from Z to me. Even "Highly Suspicious", the song that everyone seems so up-in-arms about, works for me. I think the song is hilarious actually.

I was just kidding. I think their Band influence is great too. Dancefloors sounds like a Levon Helm Band tune.

"I'm Amazed" is going to kill live.

i would say okonokos too. if you arent into live cds then "z" would be the next best choice. i dont think its their best but it is very accessible.
