The Offspring: Rise & Fall, Rage & Grace- produced by Bob Rock (6/17/08)

I must be out of the loop. I heard an Offspring tune on the radio earlier and thought I would look up info on a new album since it's been 5 years . Lo and behold, a new album is right around the corner.

Download the new single, "Hammerhead" at Offspring.com

New Album Release Information
(05/05/08) The band recently completed work on the new album Rise And Fall, Rage And Grace with legendary producer Bob Rock (Metallica, The Cult) and are now preparing for its upcoming release and the accompanying world tour. You should be hearing “Hammerhead” on your local radio station now, if not, give them a call and let them know you want to hear it.

A special gatefold vinyl edition of the album with access to a free download of the album will be released alongside the traditional CD and download in the United States.

Here are the worldwide Rise And Fall, Rage And Grace release dates:

June 11 – Japan

June 13 – Germany, Austria, Switzerland, Italy, The Netherlands and Greece

June 14 – Australia

June 16 – Belgium, Czech Republic, Denmark, France, Ireland, Norway, Poland,
Portugal, South Africa, United Kingdom

June 17 – United States, Canada, Spain, Asia and Latin America

June 18 – Sweden and Finland

Rise And Fall, Rage And Grace track-listing:
1. Half-Truism
2. Trust In You
3. You‘re Gonna Go Far, Kid
4. Hammerhead
5. A Lot Like Me
6. Takes Me Nowhere
7. Kristy, Are You Doing Okay?
8. Nothingtown
9. Stuff Is Messed Up
10. Fix You
11. Let‘s Hear It For Rock Bottom
12. Rise And Fall
Hopefully a 5 year break was good as far as creativity goes. Splinter didn't bowl me over and Conspiracy of One was more or less Americana 2.0.

Bought it even though I had downloaded it and wasn't thrilled with it. Seems there is a handful of good 'old Offspring' tracks and a handful of 'Mainstream Offspring' poppy shit gimmick songs...I usually support bands at LEAST 1 CD past their prime... maybe it will grow on me but so far I'm not overly impressed...too run of the mill. (and since I got Viva La Vida today, this will have to wait for me to spend more time with it).

Picked it up earlier. Haven't had a chance to listen to it, but I read through a bunch of the lyrics. Probably some of their best since Ixnay, lyrically.

"poppy shit gimmick songs" and you're listening to Coldplay? Interesting to say the least.

The first half of this album is growing on me...but then it hits a deadly lull with Kristy, Are you Doing Okay (the song sounds so 'engineered' to be a radio friendly hit, it just grates) and then slowly finds it's way back, but a few tracks in there are just awful.

(and there is a huge difference to when a pop rock band like Coldplay do a pop song then when a 'punk' band like The Offspring do IMO... )

I've given the album a good half dozen or more listens and agree with mdc. There is a huge lull with Kristy, Are you doing okay, but I wouldn't say they are awful. I love the rest of the album.

I also have to agree with everyone else, You're Gonna Go Far, Kid is the stand-out track on this album. I've also gotten into Hammerhead a lot more and dig that one a lot. Stuff is Messed up is pretty solid. Those are my three are my go-to tracks thus far, with Half Truism not far behind.

Another vote for liking the CD, with You're Gonna Go Far, Kid as by far the best track.

I've had this disc grow on me quite a bit this week...to the point that I'm ready to pronounce it the best since Ixnay, or at least on par with Conspiracy of One in that regard. I hadn't listened to it since the day after release, and started on Monday morning again...and I just love it now.

Standouts for me are...

Half-Truism
Kristy Are you doing okay?
Hammerhead
Stuff is messed up
trust in you
fix you (i'm surely in the minority on that one...good ballad!)

I'm off to drop in Ignition now...time for another session...

I like Fix You. I also think this is their best album since Ixnay. Ixnay is my fave, for reference.

Agreed on Ixnay, all around. Ignition and Smash are up there too...

I see a lot of people are not too thrilled with Kristy Are you doing okay...but there's something about the song for me. Perhaps it's because I had a very good friend named Kristy that I had a falling out with...

Re: The Offspring: Rise & Fall, Rage & Grace- produced by Bob Rock (6/17/08)

Anyone hear about this Japanese only release?

2. Pretty Fly (For A White Guy) (Live)
3. All I Want (Live)
4. Gone Away (Live)
5. Staring At The Sun (Live)
6. Hit! That (Live)
7. Gotta Get Away (Live)
8. Dammit, I Changed Again (Live)

9. D.U.I. (b-side - Gone Away single)
10. Beheaded -(Idle Hands soundtrack)
11. Sin City - (cover - AC/DC)
12. I Got A Right (cover - Iggy Pop)
13. Hey Joe (cover - Billy Roberts)
14. 80 Times (cover - TSOL)
15. Autonomy (cover - Buzzcocks)

17. Why Don't You Get A Job? (Baka Boyz Remix)
18. Million Miles Away (Apollo 440 Remix)
19. Pretty Fly (Baka Boyz Lowrider Remix)

I listened to it yesterday and it's pretty good. The live tracks sound excellent, covers are always interesting and the remixes? Well, they need to be heard at least once, especially Why Don't You Get a Job.

I got it a few weeks ago when it came out - first real "official" release of any live tracks of any quantity so that was cool...

and yes, the remix of why don't you get a job is hilarious with the looping of the words "bitch" and "dick" over & over
