Grand Theft Auto 4 had no impact on Wii console sales. It also looks like GTA4 didn't have any impact on PS3 or Xbox 360 console sales either.
It appears the Wii will overtake Xbox 360 in North American sales by next month. What an amazing job Nintendo!

Is grand theft auto IV the first game to sell over a million copies for the PS3?

No.
Call of Duty 4, Motorstorm*, Resistance, and Assassin's Creed have all sold over a million in the US alone.
* Includes "pack-in" offers, so it doesn't authentically count.
In terms of worldwide, 14 games have broken the 1m barrier.

I'm glad the Wii is selling but it's not like it's money in my pocket.

I guess you missed out on all the articles predicting that GTAIV would be the one thing that might slow down the Wii's momentum and spur sales of the 360/PS3. But, neither of those things happened.
Not directed at you, but in general. I wonder why so many gamers get offended when the Wii is even remotely compared to anything 360/PS3??? A thread at HardOCP on these sales figures turned into a Wii bashing free-for-all.

Ok, fair enough. I assumed I missed something like that and that's why I asked if I missed something.

For the same reason Wii fans are so "We sold more units! Nanna nanna na na!"

Yes.
BURLINGAME, CALIF. - Since the launch of the Nintendo Wii videogame console in November of 2006, the Japanese videogame company had not missed a beat. That is, until the release of Grand Theft Auto IV this week.

Pretty much every step of the way, someone has found a way to try to hammer on Nintendo, and it keeps on chugging away. I wouldn't bet against a Nintendo product. Wii Fit is going to be massive.

Nannah nannah na na. I hear you man. And hey, I'm not betting against Nintendo. I have a Wii too and I'm not trying to hammer on Nintendo.

Until that, and I just noticed it yesterday, I hadn't heard of anywhere else offering it for pre-order. All of the stores around me, including GameStop, say that they likely wont be taking any pre-orders for it and you'll have to just come in and buy it when it's released.
I'm holding out for Amazon though since I have around $40 in credit in my account there.
EDIT:
Just saw this in a thread at NeoGaf:

I went over to see what everyone is talking about on that forum, and once again I thank God for DVDTalk. I don't know where I will go for adult discussions about gaming once IB destroys this community.
