The One and Only IRON MAN reviews thread!

OK, time for people to talk about the movie and not just advance info, so let's have a new thread!

Countdown T-minus one week to one of my most anticipated summer movies -- any word yet?

Right now with just a handful of reviews it's at 83% on Rotten Tomatoes, not too bad!

I love review threads a week early that get filled up with posts that aren't reviews.

In fact I love them so much I think i'll post.

Can't wait for Ironman!!!

I loved it. It was better than Catwoman. I'm going to see it again and again.

Dark Horizons had a pretty positive, spoiler-less review.

Overall, the writing for "Iron Man" just wasn't sharp or incisive enough, and the characters just aren't all that likable. Robert Downey Jr. and Terrence Howard just aren't quite able to sustain a cinematic spark between 2 unlikely people put together through Metallurgy. The conclusion was telegraphed early, and never found its action rhythm (because it couldn't decide what was the right tone for the film, and it really languished in the middle act, and limps to a finish).

This isn't to say there aren't some funny lines and moments, there are, but they were few and far between.

I must also add that that marketing totally downplayed the appearances of Jeff Bridges and Gweneth Paltrow, and I understood why after seeing the film.

I give it 2 stars, or a grade of C.

Spoiler:
This post inspired by Patman's review of "Baby's Mama"

So Paltrow is in it? Because I've been having this argument with friends and imdb doesn't state she's in it. Hmm...

Paltrow is definitely in it. The movie was fun, a good way to kick off the summer. I think ultimately Jon Favreau was not a good choice for director, as he simply doesn't have a firm enough grasp of action. In particular:
Spoiler:
The scene where Stark escapes from the terrorists, which kicked so much butt in the trailer, is not nearly as kinetic in the film and is set to a generic score. The scene could have been thrilling, but instead was simply pedestrian.

Robert Downey Jr. Was great, though.

I've got tickets to a 8:00 May 1st showing, so will get back here with a review then. From what I read, the movie is somewhat a disappointment.

Let's remember what this is - it's a Summer Superhero movie. Citizen Kane this is not. Nor is it meant to be.

If it's at the level of the Daredevil Director's Cut I'll be VERY happy. I don't expect a Spider Man 2 or X2 or Batman Begins with this one - but I expect it to be a little better than the Fantastic Four movies or Hulk. (And a hell of a lot better than Batman and Robin.)

I was hoping for it to be the best Marvel movie not including X-Men or Spider-Man. You know better than Fantastic Four, Ghost Rider, Daredevil, Punisher, Hulk, etc.

But they also mentioned they weren't sure how the movie was going to "play" given that (and I haven't seen it, so I don't know how accurate this is) much of it is character driven and we don't see the final Iron Man outfit until the second half of the movie.

that's silly, considering that's in line with the origin stories for Superman, Batman (Begins), and Spider-Man.

The film has plenty of entertainment value, and people should be used to origin stories taking a little while to rev up by this point.

I would be interested to know what you "read"...
Nice to know you don't have preconceived notions about it...

This movie will be critic proof, good or bad, the buzz is really high on this one.

i'd see anything RDJ is in. i just think he is one of the most versatile, likable actors in the biz right now. from "Back To School" to "Wonder Boys" to "Kiss Kiss Bang Bang" to "Iron Man", i just really like him.

did anyone know he plays Tony Stark in "The Incredible Hulk" as well?

Don't get me wrong, I am excited for it, as I friggin' love all things comic related, I'm just saying I've read reviews that have complained about the pacing and action.

That is true about the first movie usually, because we "have" to get the orgin story.

Just once it would be cool if they did it in a flashback, short and sweet then bring on the action!!
