Predictions?

Lets make some predictions regarding the future of videogames.

1.The downloadable content for grand theft auto 4 will be $30

2.Microsoft will announce plans to make its first portable gaming system called "Xbox Mini" in the next two years.

What are some of your predictions?

Grand Theft Auto IV will be the best-selling (probably console, I don't know how the sales are on PC games compared to consoles) game of all-time.

Ya, I said it.

If you don't count PC games or console pack-ins, you may be right.

I agree, those are fair exclusions to my statement.

The Nintendo Wii will drop from #1 in console sales to #3, by this time next year, due to a loss of charm value, and a lack of quality games.

Microsoft will not make a "new" Xbox, but will instead offer revisions/additions to the 360, to extend it's lifetime. (I read this somewhere else, and stole the idea.)

Apple will, within the next two years, attempt to bring a console to the market, based solely on downloadable/streaming games/applications/music/films.

Activision and EA will continue to eat up all of the competition in the market, unless they're the only two main players in the game.

And so it is written...

This time next year people will still be claiming the Wii is a fad and going away despite record sales and a ginormous lead in the market.

I'm going to go the opposite route and say that this generation lasts longer than usual. The Wii is on it's own timetable now. The PS3 coming late has changed things a bit and didn't blow the 360 out of the water like previous claims(10x's the power!). There's no need to rush next gen since Sony is just getting comfortable. I'll say a new Xbox will release in 2011 maybe 2012, about the time Home actually launches.

Speaking of: Home will be a complete and utter failure and Sony will reluctantly offer a non-Second Life interface similar to Live.

This time next year, the PS3 will still be considered a great Blu-ray player with a lack luster game library.

Also, my long-time prediction that MS will release a DVR-box that connects to live and allows downloads of movies/tv/etc, but not games for a cheaper price than a 360.

I predict:

at least one real-life crime that will somehow be linked back to GTA IV playing. (hopefully it's not by me)

by the time it's all said and done, I will have paid over $500 for Rock Band and all its DLC.

- EA will be the sole publisher of every third party game.

- Every game will be available to download.

- Pianos, moroccos, and even a violin will be released as accessories for a "Rock Band" type game that will signal the death knelt of the fad.

- People will still keep buying the Wii and regretting it 3 months later.

- Playstation 3 will be better known for it's blu-ray/streaming/downloading capabilities than its gaming.

I completely agree with this. Downloadable content as an additional revenue stream will keep this generation alive longer than the typical 4-5 year cycle.
