How long do you think Sony will produce the PS2?
I'm currently deciding between a 40gig and 80gig PS3.
I have a launch PS2 and it's still working great; I know the 40gig isn't BC with PS1 or PS2, so I was thinking I'd get a 40gig and keep the PS2 hooked up.
The reason I'm leaning that route, is that although the 80gig is BC via emulation, a few of my favorite games are apparently riddled with graphic glitches.
I figure should my PS2 die, I'd just buy a new one.
My question though, is how long will Sony continue to make new PS2s? I seem to recall the PS1 was sold three to four years after the launch of the PS2.

The PS1 was still being manufactured almost to the point of the PS3's release. The PS2 is still making plenty of money for Sony, I can't imagine they'd stop production in the next three years.

Considering the PS2 is selling better than the PS3, and Sony is losing money on every PS3; I'd saying the PS2 will be around for at least 2-3 years.

Tell us the date of the PS4, and we can tell you when PS2 comes to an end.
There's no way they'll be manufacturing three different consoles at once. And there's probably no way they kill the PS2 before then.

You also have to figure there will be a secondary market clogged with PS2 consoles, based simply on the popularity of the system.
I've got a PS2 slim that had a manufacture date of 12/06, and I've probably got 75 hours of gameplay on it, so it should last quite a while. I may, and I stress may, pick up another if they were to, say, go on clearance towards the end of their life cycle, just to toss in the closet, unless Sony wises up or I can pick up a 60GB PS3 cheap...
