Never played a god of war game til now

Just got the PSP version and I love it. Is it worth going out and buying both of the PS2 ones? Or should I pick one?

Get both for sure and play them in order. The two of them are almost one long story. Both excellent games.

I just played GoW1 back in the fall. It was good but I mostly did marathon sessions and it got redundant in that situation. It's about a ten hour game, it was fun, but I definitely recommend breaking it down into smaller sessions.

God of War 2 also just went Greatest Hits, so now is a perfect time to pick them up. You definitely need to play 1 and 2 in order, like noonan4224 said, they are pretty much one long story.

I haven't played it yet but I'm pretty sure it's a prequel to the 1st.

It is basically God of War 0. It is a prequel to the first two games.

Is it worth picking up as a prev-gen game if I have a PS3?

For GoW, yes. I'd make the exception if I were you. They really pushed the PS2 hardware for both games, and so it'll still hold up on PS3.

As someone said earlier, take the games in spurts. Going long sessions isn't wise...imo.

I played the games in long sessions and loved them. Couldn't play them in short spurts because I didn't want to stop. Definitely worth picking up both games and, like others have said, played in order. IMO, the best games on the PS2.

Absolutely. Awesome game that pushed the PS2 to its limits. I wasn't able to put it down once I started it.

I played them in long sessions too. God of War 1/2 were probably my favorite games of that generation, and probably reach my top 20 list for favorites.

So... I picked this up on everyone's recommendation and am playing, er, one of the mini-games. Does anyone know what the PS3 button equivalents are for the left-down and right-down arrows?

Am enjoying the game so far except for some of the extreme button-mashing moments.

Not sure what mini game you are referring to exactly, but the button layout for the PS2 and PS3 are identical. I don't recall every having any confusion on which button or direction to press.

I have GoW on PSP and loved it. I have GoW on PS2 but I never got around to finishing it. And now that I own a non-bc PS3, I don't play my PS2 games at all, as I simply don't have room at the moment to hook up my PS2. I do want to get around to finishing the game, however. I was really enjoying it. Don't know why I stopped playing!

If you are refering to the circular arrows, those are commands to move the stick in a half circle, starting with the beginning of the arrow and moving it in the direction indicated.

It worked! Thanks, outer-edge, for figuring out what I was talking about. I was Xbox-exclusive before nextgen so I'd never encountered those arrows.

pretty sure they are exclusive to the GOW franchise anyway so it isn't like anyone knew what they were before playing GOW

Thanks, maybe I'm not quite as lame as I thought. Pretty sure I didn't see it in the manual, though, unless it was there and I overlooked it because I was looking for the picture of the arrows or something.
