I dont even know what to say anymore. Ive never seen a trailer or tv spot for Prom Night but I know I will never see it. Maybe we'll get a PG-13 Exorcist or the Shining next near. Possibly would have made Street Kings my first 2007 release I have seen in theaters if f came to my local move house but alas it didnt come for some reason...Oh well.

Sure, Prom Night gets big money this weekend, but it'll have a major plummet afterward, with Forgetting Sarah Marshall getting really good word of mouth and summer thrusting into gear soon.

IMO had this been released in May or June against one of the big summer movies, it would have probably bombed.

So fear not, haters: to make a horrible pun, I don't think this will be a night to remember.

Even with the typical horror drop in week two, Prom Night is going to be a fiscal success. The movie may not be one to remember, but the timing and the advertising campaign was really quite good. They knew their audience (young teens) and got their asses out and in the seats. I just wish someone would put as much thought into promoting more adult horror fare as those tend to be poorly promoted and dumped at the worst possible times.

Yeah, Prom Night is likely to make $55m or so (and then add DVD sales/rentals), I can't imagine that it cost that much to make.

^ Doesn't matter how much it plummets, with a $15 mil budget it's already in the black. I've heard it's one of the worst horror films ever, remake or not. The original was shitty, so it's not like they had much improve upon.

Well I don't care if it does well, I am looking forward to Forgetting Sarah Marshall next weekend, then Harold and Kumar April 25th, you have to think it is Prom season anyway for high schoolers so they would probably go see it.

Sony keeps churning out crappy PG-13 horror films, and the little teenagers keep flocking to see them. It'll never end. However, I am also surprised by the first day total as I never saw a single preview either. I've seen a few magazine ads, but that's it.

i just can't understand why someone, some production company, with some director can't make a remake that is at least half way decent. why? all of these flicks are one in the same with 0 ingenuity and creativity to speak of. i just cannot fathom why this concept is so difficult for a studio to grasp. actually remake something that is not generic and abysmal. do it for the same money you made the crapfest, get the nice profit, but have it actually be respected and well recieved. is that a concept that is far-fetched?

Christ. That's like the regular suburban multiplex Friday night 8PM set. I went to ONE one time. ONE. Pretty much any teen-targeted new release sells out in the suburbs in a Friday night prime time slot - even if it's a movie that make 10 mil over the weekend.

It was Rollerball (yea it had a few good parts, I appreciate McTiernan, you want to fight about it?). I remember not being able to hear the movie because the crowd was too loud. I stayed just for the joy of it. I don't think that I could do it again.

I worked at the theater. And it was a normal thing for adults to come out of these movies all pissy and stuff. We had to be nice. But I say fuck'em. They were never the majority in the situation.

Are you criticizing adults because they were upset by loud teenagers?

If I'm on a rollercoaster, I would certainly expect loud screaming and other noises. NOT in a movie theater. Everyone in a movie theater should shut the fuck up when the movie starts. If you want to be overly loud or talk to the screen or during the movie, then stay home and watch from your couch.

I only go at certain times to the theater nowadays. There are just too many inconsiderate assholes out there who could ruin the experience.

I actually saw Prom Night previews when I went to see One Missed Call.

That's the only time though. If you haven't seen previews that means their ads are working. They are not wasting money trying to get people like us to go see it.

There would be 5-10 adults, and around 250 kids in these theaters. I'd rather have the adults leave and let the kids enjoy themselves.

When it's the other way around, fuck the kids. I remember that "The Others" was a really bad movie for having stupid loud kids making a theater full of adults angry.

If you go to a movie like Prom Night, on opening night, at around 7-8PM - it's what it is. Trying to make everyone shut up would be like telling everyone at a concert to sit down and be quiet.
