IMDB alternative?

I used to get my upcoming movie info from various sources and then eventually IMDB got more or less caught up enough so I stopped visiting other sites... well, now IMDB (Insider Movie Douche Bags) wants to charge money for some of the information on their site... fuck that.

What are the solid info sites for upcoming movies? I'm not looking for blogs or sites that are mostly gossip or forums. I just want to be able to type in a movie name and get basic info on it. If none exist, then that's bullshit. Wikipedia is an option I suppose, but is there anything else?

What information are you trying to get that they're charging for?

Every so often, I'll be wanting to check out who's in or who is directing some movie that's not out yet and it says I need to subscribe to some insider thing in order to see the info. They do offer a free 14 day trial, but screw that.

Most recently, I was going to look up who was involved in the Gears of War movie in production.

if you know the title of the movie, you should be able to just google it.

Welcome to teh internets. Where you can find anything for free if you use a very secret search engine. It's called 'Google'.

I used to use comingsoon years and years go, but they seem to lack up-to-date info. For example, a few days ago they attached a new director to Gears, but comingsoon doesn't have either the original one or the new one listed. Thanks for reminding me about it though - I'll add it to my list of sites to check.

As for google - I'd rather just have a site like imdb that's dedicated to such things, but it should be free. Is there a site that bootlegs and re-posts imdbs pay info? I don't want all the information in the world, I just want basic relevant info in an easy to swallow capsule.

I always thought Variety was for bobble heads. Do they really provide useful information or are you having a go at me?

What was that website where you could trade fake stocks on upcoming movies? Didn't that site have pretty up to date info?

For movies that are in early development, like Gears of War, everyone (including IMDB and Variety) is going to get information at the same time, that being when the production company releases a press release about who is directing, etc.

Or when they lift an AICN scoop.

why do you care who's directing Gears of War? It's preordained to suck.

Not sure if this is updated anymore. Corona productions used to have updates on different movies. It moved on to another website (Cinescape), called Development Heck?

I used to go to Corona Coming Attractions. I forgot all about that until just now. Last time I remember visiting there was in '99 or so.

Oh yeah- Corona is what I was thinking of when I said comingsoon - I guess I never really went to coming soon. Corona was a great resource

Not if they get Uwe Boll to direct. His track record in this area is unblemished!

I remember MrShowbiz.com used to having a stock-trading game. Site doesn't really exist in its prior format though
