Ace Frehley on tour

Anyone else checking out Ace on his solo dates? I saw him on Sat night at the House of Blues in Anaheim and he put on a great show. He played a lot of great Kiss classics, some solo stuff and a few tracks I didn't expect to hear live (like a medley featuring Torpedo Girl). Sure, the guy's moving slower than in his prime, but it was a helluva lot of fun.

Here was the set list:

Rip It Out
Hard Times
Parasite
Snowblind
I Want You (Partial)
Rock Soldiers
Breakout
Into The Void
Strange Ways
Medley (Torpedo Girl, Speedin' Back To My Baby, Five Card Stud, and Trouble Walkin')
Stranger In A Strange Land
New York Groove
2,000 Man
Shock Me
Rocket Ride
Deuce
Love Her All I Can
Love Gun
Cold Gin/Black Diamond Outro

Thanks for the thread. I was not even aware he was out on the road.

I'll be checking him out in Cincy in May

Anyone of note in his band?

Saw him last night! It was AWESOME! Amazing setlist! Amazing sound! Great energy! He has a great backing band. I was 2nd/3rd row and had a blast! Wish I had a better camera phone! Got some great pictures, but they're all pixilated. Had I known that there would be no bouncers and that the club wasn't checking for cameras or tape recorders, I would've brought both!

Some observations:

- this was the 2nd time in a row at the House of Anything But Blues that the opening band completely dissed the headliner thinking that everyone came there to see them! They said (and I quote) "Make sure you stick around to see Ace Frehley!" Like anyone was there to see them! Tsar said the same thing when opening up for the New York Dolls there ("Make sure you stick around for the NY Dolls... they're really a great band")

- Ace had a ton of sound problems with his guitar right when he started to do his solo! He changed guitars 3 times during it too, but the right speakers were just spewing out all this static noise. Finally he just said "Fuck this wireless shit, give me a cord!" And the roadies put a cord in it and the problems stopped (for a little while). You can tell he was getting pretty pissed off. But it was pretty cool to see some fuckups that make the show more interesting.

- before the encores, there were more sound problems. Ace finally said "I got a bunch of fucking retards working for me! Hey retards! Fix this!" That had the place laughing.

- not as packed as I thought it would be! I never would've known about the show had I not found postings on blabbermouth. I completely glossed over the Ace date in the House of Anything But Blues ad in the weekly paper the first few times I read through it because instead of saying "Ace Frehley, March 24th", the ad had an unreadable graphic. I wonder if other people had just missed out on the show because of the poor placement and graphic advertising the show.

- thought it was weird and messed up that some people lit up some pot (in a non-smoking club!) and then threw the joint onstage for Ace. If these guys are such fans, don't they know that Ace is sober these days?

- I never knew how many KISS fans were also Nirvana fans! They played Nirvana's "In Utero" before and after the show and everyone was singing along and air drumming and all that to Nirvana. The club had an amazing sound guy last night, as "In Utero" sounded really good/different to me than when I listen to it in my car or at home. He also made Ace & his band sound stellar!

Did Ace sign autographs or anything after the shows? Anyone meet him? I would've loved to have met him, but had to rush home to get some sleep.

Ace did introduce the band, but the only guy who's name I kind of recognized was the bassist. I thought his name was Ritchie, but now that I looked it up, it sounds like it was Anthony Esposito.

Shit! I didn't even know he was touring!

I saw him when he had his "Frehley's Comets" way back when.

I didn't know he was touring, either. I would have loved to see him live.

You really need to do some research as to how the name came about. It truly is the House of Blues. Elwood Blues.

Oh another thing that was pretty funny about the show I saw:

Ace says "This next song I wrote when I got electrocuted!"...

Crowd cheered. Myself included. Then I realized I just cheered one of my heroes because he got electrocuted! At least he got a great song out of it. Probably could've made a really good joke about people cheering him after he just said that.

I hear nothing but great things about this tour. I've been a fan since '76, and would love to see an upcoming show.

I love Ace and would love to see him solo again. I saw him years ago with The Comets and he kicked ass. Great show and good times.

I'm driving up to Orlando Saturday for his show at the House of (Anything But) Blues at Disney... I am so *TOTALLY* stoked, I could eat me own face!!

I wonder if he might shake up the setlist and sing "Talk To Me". Sure, it's Ace/Kiss at his/their poppiest, but I always liked that song. WHOA! WOOD! nice...

My exact feelings when I saw him a few months ago. If anyone's on the fence about going to see him, get off your ass and go. I was kinda not wanting to go but sorta *had* to and it turned out to be one of the greatest and most memorable show's I've ever been to.

I just got in from the ORLANDO show at the HoBlues, on 5/17... all I can say: AMAZING!!! If you're on the fence, get OFF the fence, patch up your aching crotch, and GO. Totally worth it and then some. GREAT sounding band, tons of energy, sound was tight, awesomeness personified.

Here's the 5/17/2008 setlist (small deviations from previous listed ones):

Rip It Out
Hard Times
Parasite
Snowblind / I Want You ("This song is uh... about a snowstorm, allegedly...")
Rock Soldiers
Breakout
Into The Void
Strange Ways
Torpedo Girl / Speeding Back To My Baby / Five Card Stud / Trouble Walkin'
Shout It Out Loud -- NICE!! Definitely unexpected.
New York Groove
2,000 Man
Shock Me / Solo
Rocket Ride
Deuce
Lover Her All I Can
Love Gun
Cold Gin / Black Diamond outro

I think I wet 'em!

Not sure how the Ace shows have been but this is definitely the best live (or clip of a show) performance of Kiss I have seen on the recent tour ...

Enough. It's not fun. Or funny. In fact it's completely retarded and idiotic.

On your side, it was extremely cruel, I am so sorry. I promise I will never do it again ...
