Toshiba pulls the plug on HD-DVD

http://www.next-gen.biz/index.php?op...9179&Itemid=59

I got the 360 HD DVD drive for $80, So this really didn't mean to much to me. The problem with both media is that they cost to much. I was expecting HD DVD to be cheaper since it used existing technology in its production. Every time I went out buy a disk they were $29.99 or higher I would just buy the DVD version instead.

At this point I will wait for a BLU Ray player to drop to $300 or less before I jump in the pool. The only other factor that could change this is if BR disks drop to $19.99 or less.

In terms of my HD DVD collection, most of my disk were dual format, so they won't go to waste.

I understand it was an add-on for the 360, but really, this has nothing to do with gaming and there is a really thorough discussion/flame war going on in the HD Talk sub-forum.

I think that it DOES have something to do with gaming... at least with a shift in the perceived value of the PS3, the greater probability for a blu-ray add-on for the 360.

I disagree this is info related to the 360. True it has no bearing on gaming.

I see your points, but disagree. Oddly enough though, it's mostly the topic itself -- it's too broad.

*note to self: when developing and wanting to see my next gen format succeed, put it in a console.

So then you think that HD-DVD would have succeeded if MS had used it in the 360 at a higher price point?

It might have a little to do with gaming ... but this is really a discussion for the HD Talk Forum. And there are lots of discussion there. Closing.
