Movies you've always wanted to see get the "Extended" treatment
I remember years ago, back in the days of VHS, how exciting it was to see a "Director's Cut," just the chance to see a little extra footage of a movie you loved. I could think back to seeing some extra stuff from T2 and getting really excited (I was a kid), but now it seems like half the movies out there are getting "unrated extended director's special editions" left and right. But that's cool. I was just wondering what are some movies that you would like to see receive some kind of special treatment.
For me, it always boils down to two movies: Superman IV and The Avengers. If you've ever read around or been to a Superman web site, you'd learn that the fourth movie actually had around 45 minutes of footage cut from the initial screening, one that included ANOTHER Nuclear Man, more romantic relationship, and more action. Granted, the movie was cheaply produced and cheesy-looking, and we got a hint of the extra footage in the new DVD, but I would love to see Warner Bros. shell out the cash to tidy up the f/x and re-insert the deleted footage.
The Avengers, however, had nothing but good production values. The design, the costumes, the f/x were all top-notch. I'll be the first to admit that the overly surreal nature (more so than the movie), and somewhat dull acting kills the movie as it is. But if you remember the trailers or read the novelization, you'd be opened up to an entirely new scene of sequences. The movie opened with an action sequence, had more action in between, more character development, and best of all, it all made sense. I've heard different rumors about the running time of the original version (102m., 115m., 150m.), but I would love to see more.
I doubt Warner Bros. will ever give a special treatment to these two mega-flops, but what are some movies you'd like to see get a "director's cut" or something like that?

Doesn't John Hughes have another, longer version of Breakfast Club locked up in a vault somewhere? Or is it just a lot of cut material? I'd be interested to see that, though for the most part I usually prefer the theatrical cuts.

Friday the 13th Part II (I think that footage unfortunately is lost forever)
The Birdcage (w/ TV footage)
The Devils (no one outside the UK has seen the recent director's cut) - I HATE you Warner Bros. I really really do
I'll Do Anything (with all the musical numbers reinstated)
Hard Target (all the mandated MPAA cuts restored)
It's A Mad Mad Mad Mad World (director's cut)
The Alamo (currently complete only on VHS, a DVD or HiDef release should be the uncut roadshow version)
Desperado (complete NC-17 version and original shoot out finale)
Gods and Generals (director's cut) - the film in book/script form was the longer initial cut of the film.
Car Wash (w/ TV footage)
Who Framed Roger Rabbit? (w/ TV Footage)

not extended per se, but I want to see the orc stalking Eowyn scene from 'The Two Towers' that was seen in the trailer but not featured in either the theatrical or extended cut of the film.

every Friday the 13th movie
Halloween II
Halloween 6: Producer's Cut (a non-bootleg DVD would be nice, poss. in the works)
The Warriors
My Bloody Valentine
Phantasm/Phantasm II
The Punisher (w/ Dolph, I've heard the unrated cut is much more hardcore)

I have always heard about a TON of extra stuff shot for "Animal House" that was not used....at least, I used to hear about it, back in the 80s in a few interviews with cast/crew/director. But I haven't heard shit about it in 20 years or so, and have my doubts as to whether it truly exists, but if so, I could dig on a super-long version of that movie.

Rodriguez talks about the cuts on the DVD commentary track.

Back in the 80's I read an article in a movie magazine written by Paul Bartel. He was discussing his "guilty pleasures" in movies and one of his choices was the director's cut of "Heartbeeps" (which Bartel appeared in). He said it was scored with classical music and was very endearing as opposed to the banal studio recut with the John Williams soundtrack. So I've always been curious to see that.
I would love to see Wim Wender's cut of "Until the End of the World" (8 hours long!)
The musical version of "I'll Do Anything."

Magnolia. There is apparently another half an hour to the film, much of it with the Orlando Jones character that is briefly seen. Are the deleted scenes on the dvd?
The full longer cut of 'once upon a time in america' On imdb
Even at four hours long, the full cut of this film leaves about 45 minutes that Sergio Leone considered "essential" on the cutting room floor, including: further explanation of the mob/labor relationship, Robert De Niro meeting Tuesday Weld's character in the 1968 sequences, and a good deal of footage featuring Darlanne Fluegel, who played DeNiro's girlfriend, "Eve".
Now if any of this was dubbed into english or not, i dont know (i know leone filmed his movies without sound, so actors could speak what ever language they spoke)

Another vote for Wim Wender's cut of "Until the End of the World"
And also I would love to see the original version of Gigli in which Christopher Walken is revealed to be a dirty cop working for Pacino's character and ends up killing Gigli (affleck).
