Yowza. Alvin and the Chipmunks made 176mil? I haven't been paying attention for the past couple months. But just figured that it came, made a tidy profit, and went ... kind of like Garfield.

I'm curious to see if There Will be Blood will make much. I only see it making 50mil or so. But people could really like it. It's hard to say how it'll go.

Juno is a little monster! Well deserved if you ask me.

Charlie Wilson's War seems to be going the slow simmer route, which is good. It was almost declared a dud after opening weekend.

Is "Sweeney Todd" wide? If not, I'm really surprised at it's box-office take.

BTW, "The Golden Compass" is still kicking major ass overseas. Total worldwide gross is shy of 300 million now. And it hasn't opened everywhere yet.

I think Sweeney Todd is wide. It's playing at all the mainstream theaters around here.

Nice to see ONE MISSED CALL doing far better than expected. Hopefully the film's success will spur on Hollywood to jump on the Asian horror bandwagon and do some more remakes. It seems like there's a lot of great horror films coming out of Asia lately.

If it "only" made $50 million I think everyone involved would be extremely thankful. I think it will have a hard time making it to $25 million. Of course how much it makes will probably depend on the awards it gets (Golden Globes and Oscars). It looks like the WGA has successfully pushed back the GG telecast though so this will hopefully survive until one of these 2 award shows air and it gets hopefully gets some award love. If it fails to gain a large audience due to the WGA boycotting these award shows it will be something for which I will never be able to forgive them.
I myself am dying to see this film. Its driving me crazy that it isn't playing anywhere near me.

If I'm reading the info above correctly, Sweeney Todd is in 1249 theaters - about 1/3 the number of theaters showing National Treasure or I Am Legend, and less theaters than any of the movies that had a higher weekend take.

I'm always rooting for the Alien and Predator franchises to survive, but this new one's business has got me confused. I was convinced that it would bomb HARD, as in $4 million opening and $15 million total, but it somehow opened with $9 million in one day and made about $30 million for the first week, but it's going to plummet pretty badly, even during the week. I figured after one week of making $30 million it would be able to make around $60 domestically, now it looks like it will finish off with around $45 million.

They shouldn't have released the movie on Christmas day. This probably would have opened bigger (though not by much) in February, March, or November.
