Amazon - when did they stop charging tax to CA residents?

I know they were taxless to CA before, then charged tax...now they don't. When did this start happening? Is this for everything that Amazon sells (non Marketplace, of course) or only on certain categories?

I swear they've charged tax on some orders for me before, but looking back it looks like it was only Amazon resellers. I could have sworn they did.

Yeah...Amazon DID charge tax to CA residents for a while. They said that Amazon essentially was doing business in CA and therefore had to charge taxes to CA. They may have had some sort of property in CA -- a warehouse or office or something.

I looked back at purchases i've made in the last 3 years or so and the only ones with tax were ones from other resellers through Amazon.

I thought they charges tax because of the CA thing too.
