Week of 12/25 DVDs releasing early (at least at Blockbuster)
I'm sure some of you are already aware of this, but virtually everything set to be released next week is getting an early release because Christmas falls on Tuesday. If this is already common knowledge, please just ignore the thread and let it die.
Not really sure if this even the right place, however, I see on this forum that The Kingdom is being advertised as 12/23, while the store I work for, Blockbuster, just sent out emails telling us that it is coming out on 12/21 (friday). So, I guess this could be a "bargain" if you can find it early, as I've seen a few threads dealing with broken street dates and whatnot.
Anyway, like I said, I work for Blockbuster, and this was our last email's release list:
12/21
Kingdom
Eastern Promises
Heartbreak Kid
Brothers Solomon
American Pie
12/23
Rush Hour 3.
Now, like I said, there are various conflicting dates on certain flicks, so for all I know at work tommorow we'll get an email saying to move the Kingdom to 12/23. Brothers Solomon was already moved once, originally the only semi-major title to stick to 12/26. I work at a corporate store, not a franchise, so any corporate store should be sticking to these dates as of now.

I will never understand why chirstmas week always seems to come as such a shock to the cd/movie distributors. Every year they schedule stuff to come out the day after/before christmas etc. And every year they change it close to the street date.

Waiting for my friend who works at Blockbuster to give me a response to this question. I've been dying to see Eastern Promises as I'm a huge Cronenberg fan and I missed it in theaters.

I can tell you that all transworld (fye etc) stores were instructed via email to put out all 12/26 new releases today due to "competitive street date violations"

We actually put nearly everything out tonight 12/20, before close. Rush Hour, Kingdom, Eastern Promises and Heartbreak Kid. We received an update to put them all out because another retailer (supposedly Wal Mart) decided to put them out on the 20th and the studios didn't want to fight it. I wouldn't doubt if you can find everything, including the likes of Rush Hour tommorrow everywhere. I was suprised, figuring people would be snapping them up. But nope, only a few rentals and no retail sales. Guess people are too used to Tuesday releases.
We did wait on Brothers Solomon and American Pie until after close to put out. Something called Shattered is coming out on 12/25, and Jackass 2.5 and Robin B Hood are still 12/26.

At Blockbuster, where I work, we put Eastern Promisies, Heartbreak Kid, The Kingdom and Rush Hour 3 out yesterday, with Brothers Solomon and American Pie: Beta House today.
We were told to do so because Wal-Mart broke street date. Which happens all the time anyway...

this happens around other holidays sometimes too, when they fall on Tue.
it might not be a bargain technically but i think that people who are interested in deals would probably want to know this too if they weren't aware
i just wish there were better titles coming out this week.. haha

Picked up Eastern Promises and American Pie: Beta House (Unrated) this morning. Rush Hour 3, The Kingdom, Brothers Solomon and Jackasss 2.5 were also availible, though I didn't see any copies of The Heartbreak Kid.
Thanks for the heads up, sinizine. I always hate shopping the day after Christmas.

I saw Rush Hour 3 at SAMs on 12-21 with a street date of 12-26. No sure how long it was there. I have seen this happen over the years sometimes as much as two weeks early.
