Borders - 40% off DVD Boxset Sale or BR members (12/3-12/4)

Just thought I would give everyone an early heads up on this. The coupons will be going out to Borders Rewards members this weekend.

On personal note, This sale will get me The Wire: Season 4 pretty cheap on Tuesday. Hooray!

Has anybody seen the Greta Garbo collection at a Borders store? The instore price listed online is $99, but sometimes that's not the case.

Good news: it is not $99 in store.
Bad news: it is $99.99 in store.

I need to double check this to confirm...but I believe the 20% paypal promotion includes BN.com (Barnes & Noble), not Borders.

EDIT: Just checked and I'm correct. Borders isn't on the list of participating merchants.

They usually offer this kind of coupon at least twice a year and it is good on any box set.

Any instore boxset. No special orders, no reserves, no holds, etc, etc, as before.

I know that this has been asked before, but I couldn't find the thread:

What classifies an item as a box set? Does it have to be locked up in their case? Would a multi-disc set such as the Hot Fuzz 3 DVD set be considered a box set?

Thanks

I just checked my three disc "Cult Camp Classics" that I got from the last sale and there's a big "B" on the lower right of the price tag. Maybe that means it's registered as a "box" in their system.

No, not if you're looking where I think.

Generally speaking, 3 discs plus will do it--there will probably be a clarifying line of some kind (perhaps, hell, "3 discs or more") on the actual coupon tomorrow night (or tonight, whenever they send it).

It's based around a category code (DB) which denotes item category in our inventory system. Unfortunately the latest layout of the BINC sticker (the yellowish and white sticker with the price) does not include the category anymore.

i don't know if the 3 discs actually holds true either- think of shows like extras, lucky louie, US office S1 etc. only 2 discs but a box set. I know B&N has a lot of room for interpretation, i'm wondering if borders does as well...

For once I remembered a thread I read before work when I went in today.
Hot Fuzz is NOT counted as a box set.

I also know that Office S1, as another example, is not either. It's sort of random, but not overly so. Generally it's intended for 3+ discs and at least 2 titles (if you think of episodes as titles as TV goes).

FangsFirst, how about the Universal Hammer Horror Collection? Do you know if Borders considers it a box set? It's only two discs, but it's got 8 movies I think. I've been thinking about picking it up forever and I'll probably just go ahead if it's included in this sale.

They did this last year this same weekend when SNL Season 1 came out, and I tried to get it and of course the store near me didn't have it, and it would have blown any savings by driving to one that did have it.

I unpacked I think 12-20 copies (normally numbers stick in my head better than that...) tonight for my store.
I'd say it's a fairly safe bet if you get there in the morning they should have them.

Not guaranteeing, mind you..

Often 2 discers do not count, but do you know if that one's in stock at your local store?
Moot if not (I only ask because I can't recall seeing it at mine, ever)
But, if so, I will try to remember to check tomorrow.

69.99 was the list price I saw on it, and it was all the limited edition.

I think, like S1, the entire first run is the limited.

might pick up Battlestar Galactica S:1 on HD if my borders gets it. Get it for $60, maybe they'll discount it too.

What was the difference in the season 1 limited edition? I scanned through the big old Season 1 thread and no one mentions anything about that, although I remember reading something somewhere about a change. TIA.

For anyone who wants to save a trip to the store and is willing to wait, Amazon has SNL S2 for 45.49 shipped, so it comes out about the same as 40% off $69.99 ($42), after tax is added.
