Or if you can find one more expensive item, like some kind of box set. Just gotta search hard.

secondspin and wherehouse share the same used stock and have different search features, so you have options to narrow down your search. secondspin has a price-based search by genre, so you can easily find the higher-priced box sets. Shipping isn't that bad at secondspin - I ordered 5 discs yesterday (horrible timing with this sale), and the shipping cost was only $4.55 - it was the 8.25% tax that hurt more.

Made 2 orders at Wherehouse.com (cost me an extra $2.50 in shipping, but couldn't put it all on one card).

Order #1 - Preordered the Harry Potter HD-DVD boxset for $83.82 shipped.
Order #2 - Preordered Battlestar Galactica: Season 1 HD-DVD ($55.22) and Battlestar Galactica: Razor ($16.55) for $71.77 shipped.

Thanks, bwsmom!

I've sold to them twice during their 20% bonus credit offers and both times the transactions have been flawless. You send them the stuff, they look through it (they accept most of it unless it's really scratched up) and send you your check or give you your store credit.

I've sold them stuff about a dozen times, no problems here either.

EXCEPT... this last time, they rejected one of my DVDs, saying there was writing on the booklet or disc. (Haven't gotten it back yet, so I don't know which) The thing is... it's a DVD I had bought from them! I know I didn't write on it, so I guess the person they bought it from did. Just my luck they didn't catch it when he/she sold it to them, but they did when I tried to.

For pre-orders, this wherehouse sale gives some decent bargains, as long as you are already ordering other items to offset shipping:

Hot Fuzz 3 DVD $17.14 with discount
Blade Runner HD-DVD $19.59 with discount

If I hadn't already placed a secondspin order yesterday, ordered the Buffy set this morning, and taken advantage of the dvdplanet 20% sale, I would probably be able to talk myself into getting some preorders.

How does shipping work here? I see it is $3.49 for first item and $1.00 for each additional.........but I only have 5 items and my shipping is showing as $12.47!!!

Edit: I had 2 pre-orders that release on different dates, so looks like they ship those separately and add 2 additional $3.49 charges. Anyone know how to force them to wait for shipping?

On wherehouse, as you check out, there is an option for Send Items - select Together in one Package to minimize the shipping charge.

If you trade stuff into the wherehouse and take
credit to your account. They do not charge tax
to your order of the credit value.
Anyways...Just got $100 credit last week.
Now what to spend it on.

And thanks bwsmom for posting this....

Selling them works out great. But I can't recommend buying from them. There's always huge stickers on the DVD cases. I had to replace every case I've gotten from them. I'm sure when people send their discs in they look fine but then they actually fuck it up themselves.

When I've bought DVDs from them, the stickers peel right off. No residue even. I don't think I've ever had to replace a case I've gotten from them. YMMV

I found a few DVDs I wanted late last night, but decided to hold off on placing an order until today, in case I found some more... unfortunately, they've raised prices since then, in some cases by quite a bit. The Queen, for instance, was $6.99, now it's $14.99 Needless to say, I'll pass.

Anyone have any experience with how Wherehouse ships out pre-orders? I have some items that come out in early December and some in January. If I choose to ship "Together in one package", will they hold everything until January?

Where are you seeing new stuff, i.e. Harry Potter HD-DVD set? And the coupon is only supposed to work on used...?

I got Harry Potter 5 HD set for $79, Blade Runner HD for $20.96, and 24: Season 6 for $31.45....each after coupon and taxes (and before shipping). Nice deals.

I'm probably going to jump in on this deal - what is Wherehouse like with regards to shipping on pre-orders? I am looking to consolidate the shipping costs for Bladerunner and the HP Year 1-5 HD sets, but need to be sure that I will receive then prior to Christmas. I've paid for expedited shipping but Bladerunner's 12/18 release date is cutting it a little fine.

Thanks!

With the quoted price of $6.99, I'm going to assume you were looking at a used copy. They price their items by the number they have in inventory (i.e., if they've got 14 copies of The Queen, they price it at $6.99. As the copies start selling, they raise the price so by the last few copies, they're up to $14.99). My guess is that while you were waiting, a few folks got to the inventory while it was still well stocked, whittling the inventory number down to just a few, hence the higher price. Moral of the story: You snooze, you lose!

I should have clarified, I was talking about SecondSpin so yes, I was looking at a used copy. They have 9 copies in stock right now, which is the same number they had when it was $6.99. BTW, it's now $9.99... I'll still pass.

I had $37 in unused credit sitting around at Wherehouse! Talk about bonus bucks. Tax and shipping suck nuts, though. If you don't have bonus bucks its really only good for preorders you couldn't get during the 20% days.

New DVD - Price: $63.69

Walt Disney Treasures: Chronological Donald Duck, Vol. 3
Pre-order DVD - Est. Release Date 12/11/2007 - Price: $16.16

Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End [Blu-Ray]
Pre-order DVD - Est. Release Date 12/04/2007 - Price: $17.63
