Planet of the Apes: The Ultimate DVD Collection for $71.99 at Amazon

http://www.amazon.com/b/?node=384082011

12 deals are listed on this page and will randomly be available as Deal of the Hour on Gold Box page starting 0600 hours (PST) for 1 hour or until the stock runs out.

So, one has to keep checking back at the start of every hour to see if the set is available.
The set will be available at 5pm PST today.

lol..you beat me to it Punit.

I just posted the same thing over at the 'Hot Deals' forum because they will be having a $150 HP Photo Printer available for $9.99.

Anyway, by my reckoning this 'POTA' deal will happen at 5pm ET tonight. Judging by the clues and the way they have the iotems lined up, it appears as if it is going in the order shown.

But, best check every hour to be safe

Confirmed now. It'll be available at 5pm PST so that'll be 8pm ET

Oh man, I want that monkey head! I missed out on that deal way back from DDD, and this might be even cheaper depending on if they offer free shipping.

It is! I got it in June, 2006 from DDD for $81.80 (free shipping).

Yeah, I remember not getting the DD deal at the time because I was sure it would be cheaper at some point, but then it never was so I figured I chose wrong, but now maybe not.

Jeez! It sold it in seconds! I don't get how that's possible. As soon as the sale went live I added it to my cart but nothing happened! Then my page refreshed saying 96% sold so I clicked "Add to Cart" like crazy and nothing happened and then it said 100% sold. How the heck did I miss out on it? Was there some sort of secret technique I should have utilized to ensure I got it? Damn... sucks... Oh well, that big head would have never fit on my shelf anyway. Hopefully the POTA people will do the same thing the Battlestar Galactica people did when they released the giant Cylon head and re-release the series in better, smaller packaging. Argh!

What a load of crap, I was waiting for it, and by the time I clicked on it, they were gone!

I don't know if I did something wrong or what....

Damn - That didn't last long! I had forgotten about it, but logged in at 8:10 EST and all were claimed. I was still somewhat debating whether to get it (mostly due to cash flow this time of year).

I'd say they were covering for a price mistake, but it's not like this was advertised.

Actually, it was. It was one of their Black Friday hourly Lightning Deals.

Good point, I just can't see that there was that big of an interest in this set unless they only had like 5 of them for sale. I mean I seriously was staring at the little countdown timer and hit "add to cart" as soon as it appeared.

The printer mentioned previously apparently went in seconds as well. Kind of adds a whole new meaning to the phrase lightning deal, eh?

Seriously, same thing happened to me. How the hell did everyone else get their order in so fast? And I have a pretty fast Internet connection, so I know that couldn't have been it.

It's the internet equivalent of those radio contests from way back when.

"Caller number 107 with the phrase that pays wins today's jackpot/concert tickets!!!"

Did you use 1-click order? I got a Wii that way once.

EDIT: I don't know if 1-click works with Lightning deals

Isn't there only like 10,000 of these things?

Shouldn't they all be gone by now? Except for the ones at FYE ofcourse, who still have them "on sale" for 189.99

Eh, it'll go on sale for $59.99 by the end of the year. If not, oh well. That monkey face still creeps me out, and I know if I was to walk through my place late at night, and that thing sitting on a shelf, I'd scream like a little girl, trip, fall, and curse its name.
