xbl is about to expire, what happens?

So my 360 is still in the mail (it's coming back!) but aside from that my xbl account is set to expire in 2 days. I ordered a new 12 month card from buy.com but its not here yet and I'm afraid because of the holiday it won't be here until next week.

What happens when the xbl account expires? Can I just recover it? Do I lost my points?

What about those 48 hour codes? I have a few in some of the games I bought. Can I use those to extend my account until my card arrives?

I don't think those 48 hour codes works on an existing account. Just make sure you're not set to auto renew, your account shouldn't close in the brief time between now and when you get your 12 month card (I didn't know they close at all, but apparently they do after months of inactivity).

You can renew it within 60 days from it expiring, after that, that acct can never be used again, so you still have plenty of time.

*whew* that's good to know. I don't think I have a credit card on file to auto-renew so I should be ok there.

If you're getting your 360 back from repair - as you mentioned that your 360 went RROD a while ago, then you will get a free month Live! card that came with your 360. You don't have to worry about it.

When I contacted Xbox support, they said "if you prepaid with a sub card your sub will drop to silver, you will still have access to XBLA and marketplace, gamercard, gamerscore, etc etc, if you paid by CC, you'll autorenew, if you paid by CC and it doesn't go through, you'll autorenew and owe a balance."
