LAME! "Extras" complete series set will exclusively have the 90 minute special

According to dvdfile.com:

HBO is preparing a 15 January release of Extras: The Complete Series. This hit Ricky Gervais series – for which he just won a Best Actor Emmy – will come with both seasons of the series intact, and will exclusively include a 90-minute ‘extra special series finale’. The show’s anamorphic widescreen transfers and stereo sound mixes will be holdovers from the show’s season-by-season releases. SRP is $49.99.
It was only a week or so ago I saw a commercial on HBO about the "Extras" Christmas special which is the awesome news but now I see this announcement about the complete series box set that includes an "extra special series finale" which I can only assume is the Christmas special. Really freakin' lame.

I already bought both series on DVD when they came out but now HBO expects me to buy them again just to have the special? Why won't they give it an individual release as well for those of us who already own the first two series?

Interesting, I've purchased and watched both series (Gervais is a comic genius), however, I'll have to wait and see how special this 90-minute special will be before I give another purchase any thought.

Thanks for the heads up though. I'll look for it.

That sucks. I guess I will sell my other copies now. Thanks OP. (but at least they are making a special)

Sell your first sets, buy the new one. Why does everyone get so worked up over these things?

I thought people already knew about this. Anyway, I'll probably be getting this set later.

I held off on buying the other seasons so I could get the inevitable box.

It is a dick thing to do though, selling the special exclusively with this.

Selling sets is just an annoying nuisance, I do it, but I don't like to. I don't mind when it's just more extras, but when it is something like this it is a pain.

Glad I held off getting these. Its because of this that I have yet to buy any of The Wire, just paitently waiting for the complete series set.

Saw this one coming. I wasn't buying this until they put out a complete set.

Tough decision, Best Buy has HBO dvds 50% off on Friday. Do I buy the two seasons for a combined $20, or do I wait and get the "complete series" for $40 in January?

Looks like it's already ready for preorder on Amazon for $34.99.

I purchased a Region 2 copy of Season 1, so in order to sell mine I'd have to find someone savvy enough to have a region-free player, but also ignorant of this upcoming release.

At least the price is somewhat reasonable (compared to other HBO titles).

As am I. Although, I don't really feel too badly about having to potentially sell my R2 for peanuts in order to unload it. It's been out for a few years now and these are certainly the hazzards of buying import copies of something we know will be available in the US sooner or later at much lower prices.

I may not pick up the complete set right away, but it's a definite purchase at some point for me.

I unloaded my two sets a couple weeks ago when I first heard about this set. I rarely double-dip, but this is a brilliant show.

I'd never bought the individual seasons for some reason, so this set will work for me. Wish I always waited for the complete series box sets for shows I like, but am not always that clever.

hbo doesn't have any info on the special (that I can find) nor does wikipedia. I saw the promo, but thought it'd be documented somewhere. anyone know when it airs and all that?
