I am Legend...Another Hollywood Remake

Did anyone notice that the Dec. 14th release of "I am Legend" starring Will Smith is just a remake of the 1971 "The Omega Man" starring Charleston Heston?

It's funny, I don't see that mentioned anywhere on the internet yet. At least not in the places I've checked. Hollywood is probably embarrased to admit they are churning out yet another remake. Don't get me wrong, I plan to see it.

It's based off the old Richard Matheson book, "I am Legend". Printed in 1954....or are you being sarcastic?

Well then the 1971 "The Omega Man" must have been based on the same book but this is definitely a remake. I saw the Omega Man and the premise is exactly the same.

http://imdb.com/title/tt0067525/

The lead character's name is Robert Neville in both films.

Actually, "The Last Man on Earth" starring Vincent Price came first, and that was the story that "I am Legend" tells. I've never seen "The Omega Man", but I see that the lead character is also named Robert Neville, just as in "I am Legend" and "The Last Man on Earth".

It's a great story, that's for sure. I love the book, and the Vincent Price version as well. The Will Smith update looks different, but interesting.

When the movie opens we need to do a poll on the 3 movies to see which one we like the most.

geez, not to be insulting or anything, but someone doesn't know how to use the interweb...

I'm pretty sure we've been discussing this ever since they announced the movie was going to be made (way back when Schwarzeneggar was involved).

Oh ..... the thing we've been discussing here for well over a year. For a minute I thought this was going to be about a remake of the Will Smith version.

It's only a matter of time until a remake beats the original out. I wonder what the current record is for shortest time from original release to remake release.

You need to find some new sites. It's been mentioned in every single thing I've ever read on the movie.

I like the THE LAST MAN ON EARTH (the original version) better than THE OMEGA MAN (the first remake), but I'll check the new third version out as well. I'm sure it will be lighter in tone, but maybe not.

BTW, it's Charlton Heston, not Charleston.

I figured the word "ass" would get people's attention, but apparently it didn't. Let's see if "lengthy" has a better affect.

I wouldn't consider it a movie remake as much as a new adaptation of the same novel.

Think of all the movies the novel A Christmas Carol spawned. Are they all remakes of the first movie filmed from it, or are they just different adaptations of Dickens?

That said, the upcoming Omega Man HD releases will likely come w/ movie cash for I Am Legend. (Both the Blu-ray and HD-DVD versions are listed as having Movie Cash).

Exactly. You can't hold this in the same disdain as say the PSYCHO remake. Now if they remade it every 5 years then maybe you'd have a case. I'm pretty sick of Christmas Carol myself.
