70's movies that involve a rape scene?

I am not depraved, this is for a paper for a film class.

I am doing a 10 page paper on rape as a means of raising the bar on screen violence in the 70's. We had to watch Straw Dogs in class and the discussion that followed about the rape in that movie has prompted my paper. So I need some films that you can think of (that are readily available) that I can refer to throughout the paper.

The main two movies I will be using are I Spit on Your Grave (1978) and Straw Dogs (1971). Can you think of any more mainstream or "mainstream" movies that deal with the ramifications of rape or have a rape scene in them.

I tried Imdb but it was vague at best, and I knew some of you would be able to help me out. Thanks for the help.

So far I have:
A Clockwork Orange
Deliverance
Salo, or 120 Days of Sodom

I remember a rape scene in Billy Jack that was screened at my Junior High school - it was a tad bit distasteful and inappropriate for our young eyes.

Peckinpah would be a nice focus with regards to Straw Dogs. Check out Bring Me the Head of Alfredo Garcia...there's a pretty disturbing scene in that (as well as a lot of misogyny).

I edited my original post. I meant to say that Straw Dogs and I Spit on Your Grave are my two main movies I will be focusing on.

Thanks for the suggestions so far. I will look into those movies and add them to my proposal. The proposal is due tomorrow. What kind of college student would I be if I didn't wait until the last minute.

Are you at Furman?
No, I am a Senior at East Carolina University in NC. This is just for a upper level film class about Violence in Cinema.

Walerian Borowczyk - The Beast
Caligula

you might also want to include a few movies where sexual obsession leads to the female characters having the upper hand

- 'In the Realm of the Senses'
- Marco Ferreri's 'The Last Woman'

I don't know of any, but rap didn't really take off until the 1980's.

How about some man on man rape?

I remember being really disturbed by The Glass House. I can't recall whether it was shown on screen or not, but Vic Morrow definitely intends to rape Alan Alda.

Thanks to you guys and your quickness I now have a ton to put down on the proposal.

Deliverance (1972)
Salo, or the 120 Days of Sodom (1975)
A Clockwork Orange (1971)
Billy Jack (1971)
El Topo (1970)
Caligula (1979)
The Last House on the Left (1972)
In the Realm of the Senses (1976)
Caged Heat (1974)
Buster and Billie (1974)
The Beast (1975)
The Glass House (1972)
Ilsa, She Wolf of the SS (1975)

And Giles I saw The Beast about 3 months ago and I think I had blocked it from my memory, but thanks for bringing it all back to me. I am scared all over again now. And I had remembered In the Realm of the Senses also, I recently watched that one also. What a strange and not quite porn but still porn-like movie. I begrudgingly liked it. The dvd for that movie in region 1 is crap though.

I have no idea of the time table of your paper, but listening to some of the commentaries on the DVD's might be helpful

- El Topo

- Caligula - Macolm McDowell was originally supposed to 'bugger' (anal rape) the guy, but he balked at the request and instead purposed and altered to scene for him to fist the character instead.

- Last House on the Left - all I can remember about the commentary was that it is quite unengaging

- Ilsa - have the disc, but have not heard the commentary. The disc is OOP.

Do TV movies count? If so, you can't overlook "Born Innocent" with Linda Blair. Getting raped by a bunch of girls with a broom stick.

That was the first (and only) one I thought of when I saw this thread.

I just thought of another one: Fortune and Men's Eyes.

If you count 1980 as the last year of the 1970s, as is correct, then you can include Bad Timing.

That's a bad one, but I would say Irreversible is a little bit more disturbing.

Some of the more disturbing rape scenes are in this series, namely the original and the sequel (technically 1982, but has such a 70's feel to it overall).

Jeff Goldblum was quite the creep in the 70's.
