Wal-Mart's $9.00 2-disc and/or free Golden Compass ticket display

I'm spinning this new thread off from the 300 2-disc thread because if you're not interested in 300, you'll never know about this new deal going on.

It was in the very back of the DVD department, but obviously not a mistake. Try looking for a green/red (natch) holiday themed endcap with the $9 price clearly listed.
I found these tonight in Lehighton, PA in a big one-sided display near the front of the store. Price is $9 each and the contents include:

Movies only:

2-disc 300
2-disc Departed
2-disc Blood Diamond
2-disc Green Mile
2-disc V for Vendetta
2-disc Superman Returns

Movies with Golden Compass movie cash and preview disc:

2-disc Pan's Labyrinth
2-disc theatrical/extended LOTR Trilogy sets (all 3 separate)
Snakes on a Plane
Blow
Wedding Crashers Uncorked (fool screen)
The Notebook
Tenacious D

It looks like the Golden Compass stuff is wrapped around the existing DVDs, so you might be able to remove the ticket and preview disc and still have a sealed copy of the DVD left over.

I've got a Golden Compass ticket...I've got a Golden Compass ticket...

I scanned both a 2-disk Superman Returns and a 2-disk Pan's Labyrinth yesterday and only the Superman came up as $9.00

On their website, Pan's Labyrinth is $8.87 with movie cash:
http://www.walmart.com/catalog/produ...uct_id=7732191
If it scans another price, maybe they will price match their website?

Cool. If this hits my local Wal-Marts, I'll pick up Blood Diamond and Snakes.

I can't wait to see Golden Compass.

Maybe it's because the Pan's Labyrinth with the Golden Compass ticket has different packaging and UPC. Maybe they're supposed to lower the price of the regular 2-disc Pan's to match, but it's probably not as much of a priority as changing the prices of 300, Departed, etc. which are in this display with their original UPCs.

This is actually in Walbaums (Yes, the supermarket) for $9.99 each. Picked up the Green Mile tonight, so I don't have to rely on Wal-mart.

Yes, at least in the case of Pan's it definitely is. Underneath the new Pan's/Golden Compass slip cover (which is actually big enough to fit over the original Pan's slip cover if you already have it, it's not included here) are 3 separate items, the ticket (value up to $10.50 good until 1/6/2008 anywhere but AMC theatres), the preview disc in its own shrinkwrap, and the movie in its original plastic wrap with security seal on top and showing its original UPC.

The preview disc has "Wal-Mart Exclusive!" printed on it and includes:

*Featurette for the movie with behind-the-scenes footage and interviews

*Theatrical movie trailer

*An in-depth look at the making of the SEGA game including interviews and game play footage

*An exclusive game cheat code

I just read that a lot of these 2-disc DVDs (300, Superman returns, Departed, Blood Diamond) will be on sale on BF, for cheaper than $9.

Not sure what the rules are about posting that kind of stuff, so i won't get into details.

For me, I know I'd rather pay slightly more than have to fight the crowds on BF.

I agree completely. I already bought this the other day. But I got the last 300 disc at my wal-mart, so not sure if the limited availability is the same at other wal-mart stores.

Just thought people may want to know.

The Superman Returns 2-disc Special Edition with slipcase rang up as $5.00 for me today (Fort Wayne, IN). Anyone else find this happening for them as well? I scanned multiple copies just to make sure it wasn't a glitch.

$5 for a 2 disc SE of a good movie, a free movie ticket, and a bonus disc? Sounds like a great mass buy Christmas gift extravaganza for me.

Sorry, I don't know for sure. I know one ad has the 300 disc listed as a Doorbuster, so that sounds like in-store only. I would assume they'd all be in-store only.

Hey, used_submarine, which WM was that? Did they have any copies of 300 2D?

Couldn't find any such display at the Cleveland stores (Aurora and Macedonia were no-gos).

The display I saw had more 300s and Departeds than anything else. Maybe 25% of the display was just those. Green Mile and V for Vendetta had the smallest quantities of the no-ticket DVDs.

They only had about 6 copies of Pan's as well. I think the LOTR trilogy, Wedding Crashers, and Notebook had the most quantities of the ticketed DVDs Blow and Pan's were probably the lowest.

It was the Wal-Mart on Coldwater Rd. They had a few copies of 300 2D too. The shelf sticker says $19, but it rang up $9.

Edit: I checked last night to be sure. They had about 12 copies of the 300 2 disc.

Also, if you're buy Superman, make sure to get the one with the barcode ending in 11698. The other barcode rings up at $9.
