has anyone seen two versions of this in-stores? i went to suncoast yesterday and saw the set. in the picture, it looks like what is inside are the four ultimate volumes and casino royale, much like what is shown on amazon. but i went to costco yesterday as well. on their set, the picture shown is 20 slimcases, the 2-disc casino royale and then a small black file-folder-looking thing with the inserts housed in there. are there SUPPOSED to be two types of sets? did they just recycle the remaining ultimate volumes into some pressings? and then when they ran out, just put slimcases in?

wasn't sure, but wanted to make sure people notice this and/or look on the box description before picking it up in case only SOME cases come with the box set holders.

Costcos set are exclusive to them. Its packaged that way as I think that they also include 2 summarized James Bond guides.

The regular is the one that has the 4 cases inside the bigger case.

The powers that be should at least make this case available to those of us who have previously purchased all 4 of the Ultimate Volumes and Casino Royale already. I'd even pay for shipping like i did for my "Friends...all Ten Seasons..." set.

I have all the previous releases except for From Russia with Love. That the best I could do was a burned copy when my original got scratched and refused to play. I may pick this up for my son who is away at school.

I don't mean any offense by this, but the James Bond series is one where I just don't see the appeal of having a boxed set. It's never going to be complete. Just as the current set went out of date when CR was released, this will be out of date when the next film and set are released, and then it will go on and on.

I realize it's hard to say with absolute certainty that any series is done (see Die Hard, Indiana Jones), so at some point a boxed set makes sense. However, of all the series out there, Bond is probably the one with the least doubt that it will continue.

What they should have done is made box sets of 60's, 70's, 80's, 90's etc.

totally true. but seeing as casino royale is supposed to be a rebooting of the series, i guess it's as good a point as any to "cut off" the series into a box set. older films had its certainties: bond girls, gadgets, etc. i'm sure those will make their way back in eventually, but since the new bond is supposed to be more gritty/realistic/whatever and trying to stray from the preconceived notions of bond, perhaps future installments may not appeal to the people who liked the first 20. who knows? but given how studios love double-dipping, i'm sure we'll probably see ANOTHER huge set come out when 22 is released on dvd, the "shaken, not stirred collector's edition" perhaps? and then ANOTHER with 23... hopefully not, because that would get annoying...

they should've just released smaller sets for each bond actor. but they probably didn't do this because they knew that sales would skew towards particular actors. if they had done it that way, i FOR SURE would've gotten connery and brosnan, but probably none of the others...

I think, but am not sure, that the guides included in the Costco set are the same guides that were in the Wal-Mart exclusive packagings of vol 3 and 4 (or maybe it was 1 and 2).

Just a guess, based on how they look on the packaging.

BUY IT.

Seriously, sometime this month you'll be able to find this for an amazing price. A lot of the films are amazing and even the ones that suck are still "fun" -- they look great and have a ton of interesting supplements.

For someone who likes Bond, but doesn't own the movies, this is a no-brainer.

Anyone got a picture of the Costco set? Maybe I'll try to go out there and buy it if it looks a lot cooler than the standard set.

I wish they'd done the volumes in chronological order -- what a boneheaded thing not to do. Then when they've done three more films they could have done Vol. 5 and so on and so forth.

I'm probably going to get it from B&N for around $100 (see Bargains Section -> Barnes and Noble Coupon thread).

What bonus books? The only booklets I have are the DVD "insert" books for each movie.

the costco version came with two books. BUT the costco version inside did NOT come with the outer boxes for the individual boxes. it was 19 slim cases, casino royale amaray, then 2 bonus books. imo, the standard version available everywhere else looks nicer, because you get all four individual volume boxes and the casino royale amaray, but no bonus books. and i remember thinking at the time that the bonus books were kinda lame anyways.

Noticed today at Best Buy that they are now releasing the individual 2-disk movies. They had about 7-8 of them that I saw.

I'm sure this has been answered before, but since this thread was on the front page, here goes.

Does anyone know if the original MGM release commentaries are the included in the Ultimate Edition releases? dvdcompare.net was a little fuzzy on the details. It would say that the MGM commentary was with with person X, but then the UE releases would say that it was with person X and others.

It almost sounds like they took the original commentary and added some interview commentaries or something... or the dvdcompare.net details were incomplete for the MGM releases.

I'm thinking about upgrading to the Blu-Ray releases and wasn't sure if there was any reason to keep the original MGM versions.

Nope. Standard size keepcase with a partially chromium cardboard slipcover.

Looks like they gave them the same covers as the Blu-ray releases:
