Any of you do this? Watch a DVD before you buy a new DVD.

I was thinking the other day how it would be if I set a rule for myself where I wasn't "allowed" to buy a new DVD until I watch the last DVD I bought. Or in a case where I happen to buy more than one DVD at a time, I wouldn't be "allowed" to buy another DVD until that batch has been watched through. Or in a case where I go to multiple stores in a single day, that could count as one purchase and again, I couldn't buy anything else on a different day until those have been watched.

Now, I'm willing to admit that I'd never really do anything like this, but I'm sure I'm not the only one to come up with the idea. Do any of you actually do anything like this? Heck, if I did this my collection would be way smaller than it is right now.

i think that's a good idea, but considering most of the dvds i buy are during one-week sales or special promotions, i wouldn't want to give up the good price on those dvds because i haven't watched the others i've purchased before. i think that's probably the main reason there are several unwatched dvds in my collection. in my case, there are only maybe 20 movies/tv seasons that are unopened and awaiting viewing, so i suppose it's not as bad as it could be.

What next, can't watch TV until your homework is done?

I used to do that back in the day of laserdiscs, but not intentionally. Not as much stuff was coming out all at once like it does now plus LDs were $30-$40 a shot instead of as low as $4.

And you're not getting up from this table until you clean your plate!

Seriously, I think it's a long shot that anyone does this. Possibly some one has tried, but I doubt they've had any long term success.

Considering I have about 100 I still need to watch.... I don't think so.

Why sets rules upon yourself. Buy what you want. Watch what you want.

At some point I will get around to watching them all.

I like browsing through my DVD collection and being able to pick something to watch I have yet to see.

Couldnt do it, then Id never be able to buy new titles. I dont open DVDs till I watch them, so Ill periodically go through my collection to watch those before I pop in an old standard.

But this October challenge is killing my watching, I guess November will be my time to catch up along with December/Jan off of school.

Now that Canadian dollar parity has made US DVD sites more appealing, I am back to buying online. Buying one at a time would wipe out any savings due to shipping costs, so I can't use your otherwise good idea.

Although it's natural to "buy what you want, watch what you want" I've got some restraints - I set for myself a certain amount of money I can spend in a month for DVDs. Otherwise I'd end up on the street with all my DVDs in boxes...

Back in my early days of collecting I took it a step further. I wouldn't buy another one unless I had watched the movie AND the movie with COMMENTARY. But now I know better and just go for the early sales and save money and watch later and pray against defects!

I don't do this, but I do try to watch an unwatched title before rewatching an older one.

Would never work. I always have a backlog of movie to watch, but I try to keep the list short.
