Why are the X-files Mythology sets more expensive than the full season sets?

A friend just recently let me borrow his season 1 set. I never bothered watching the show before because I despise "freak of the week" shows. While I did not care much for those episodes, I did actually like the main mythology episodes. I looked around on the internet and saw that there are dvd sets with just the mythology episodes, so I thought about buying them. I noticed that they are $12 more than the full season sets though. Why is that? The mythology sets have 15-16 episodes each, and the full season sets have 22-24 episodes each. So why the higher price on the mythology sets?

I don't know, maybe because they are newer?

The season sets were more expensive, and remained that way while the mythology sets were released. They then released the slim pack sets, and they then began lowering the prices of the season sets, but never lowered the prices of the mythology sets.

Because the Smoking Man gets a cut of the action?

Yeah, the season sets used to run over a hundred bucks each

Well, in theory people could buy the mythology sets and save money from buying the entire series, so you are paying a small premium to save more money by getting only what you want.

I'm torn on whether I like the mythology episodes or the "monster of the week" episodes better. The mythology storyline was great for several years, but some individual episodes like "Humbug" are my overall favorites.

I never understood the smaller sets but that's because I am a big completest and an even bigger X-Files fan. The season sets first retailed at about 150.00. I bought my sets from Canada to save a bit. They were pricey but worth each and every penny to me.
