I was adding this to my DVDAficionado account and noticed that they have 2 listings for this. A single edition and a double-disc edition.

Maybe we're lucking out with two releases?

This is FOX we're talking about. The way they've been operating these past few years, I think the closest we'll get to a double release is Widescreen and Fullscreen.... single disc. Then in about 8 months or so, they'll re-issue it with a lenticular sleeve followed by the Steelbook edition. Then after a year we'll get the "2-Disc Super Duper Gamma Ray Collector's Edition" that should have also been released the first time around.

True. But Fox did release two versions of Night at the Museum earlier this year. A single disc and a double-disc. So the act isn't unheard of.

Out of the ordinary? Yes. But not unheard of.

but yay for a 2-disc set so long as its actually packed with worthwhile extras. i didn't care for the movie all that much, but if it's a nice set, put me down for one.

i dunno if i will even bother with this one, i got the 2-disc FF1 as a gift and found the movie was missing alot of things, the 2nd one was better but not by much. if there is a 2-disc of FF2 and the extras are as good as the FF1 2-disc extras than i might consider it.

Well, I happily waited for the extended cut 2 discer of the original but will be most happy for the 2 disc that's been announced. Maybe they're finally getting the message at Fox. Do it right the first time in region one (especially when everybody knows you do in other regions).

This will be a blind buy for me since I was unable to use the free movie cash promotion earlier this summer. It sounds very promising.

Are you complaing about the act of giving DVDs such titles or the title itself? Because I think it fits.

Also good on Fox for not holding back the two-disc set for a later release. They should do that more often.

I was thinking the same thing. I figured they would hold off on this until at least the third movie came out.

And this will be an extended version, or are the extra scenes only accessible in the bonus features section? Because I felt the movie cried out to be about 30-45 minutes longer.

They are still planning a third movie, right? I am hoping for a Sub Mariner movie and an all out Atlantis Vs. New York war!

I got in on the MovieCash promotion (and really enjoyed the two comic-related documentaries on the FF Extended Cut), so I can report that this was definitely a step in the right direction for the series. Surfer was unquestionably the coolest thing to happen to this film franchise.

a little of both. i just don't understand why they can't use something as simple as "special edition" or "deluxe edition." to me, giving random names such as "power cosmic edition" leaves it open for them to still double-dip in the future using even more ridiculous titles. that way, it's like the companies can argue, "we never said it was the final edition! it was just the 'cosmic power edition', this is the 'fantasticar edition' with all-new packaging and a bonus featurette on the making of the car!"

i used to be under the impression that when you saw a 2-disc or when a disc was labeled as special edition/deluxe edition/collector's edition, it would likely be the final definitive release. but that's never the case now.

as for "power cosmic" itself, while the title does fit and is a term used in the marvel universe, i don't recall them mentioning it in the movie? and to refer back to what i said previously, i just don't like titles when they could easily just refer to them as a "special edition"

My thanks to Fox for going the 2-disc route right off. Love the first one, and will be buying this sight unseen on release day.

I’m another that is happy that FOX is going the '2-disc special edition' route right off the bat. This will be a blind buy for me since I don’t go to the theatres anymore. I saw the first one in theatres but haven’t picked it up on DVD so I’ll grab a copy of the first one, same day.

I haven't seen the movie yet but I have heard
Spoiler:
that the Silver Surfer's power in the movie comes from his surfboard, and without the surfboard he is powerless. This is completely different from the Power Cosmic in the comic books where his power was innate and given to him by Galactus.
So the 2% of the population that reads comic books will get the Power Cosmic reference, but the other 98% will be left clueless as to what it means.
