Drew Carey New Host of Price is Right!

It's Official...

NEW YORK (AP) -- Drew Carey, Come on down! You're the next host of "The Price is Right!"
Carey has been tapped to replace the legendary Bob Barker on the C-B-S daytime game show. Carey confirmed the deal during a taping of the "Late Show" with David Letterman.
The selection has attracted more attention than usual for a daytime show because of the prospect of replacing Barker, who retired after 35 years in the job last month.
The opening had attracted widespread interest, including from comic Rosie O'Donnell after she left "The View."
Carey spent a decade on his own A-B-C sitcom and was also host of the comic improvisational show "Whose Line is It Anyway?"

Erm...yeah.

And hey, I actually like Drew Carey. I just don't think he's a good choice for this show.

Wow, I remember back in the Ace Ventura days he was "the next big thing". What happened?

I thought Arsenio Hall would be a better choice:

A comic, but one who could really PUMP up an audience.

Defamer's notice cracks me up:

Drew Carey to Host 'Price is Right' Despite Having No Stated Opinion on Pet Neutering

Having determined that Hi Lo matches would in no way be enhanced by a clinically-depressed hostess who'd interrupt the popular pricing game to vengefully accuse announcer Rich Fields of having betrayed her, producers of The Price is Right opted not to go with Rosie O'Donnell as Bob Barker's successor....

What, was Wayne Brady busy?

I guess it is a better choice than Rosie, but the show should have ended, I doubt it will ever have the same following.

Actually, that tall blonde guy that was on both "The Drew Carey Show" and "Whose Line is it Anway?" would have been a good choice. I can't think of his name but think he'd be a good fit.

Meh. Should have gone for a seasoned game show host like Chuck Woolery. Plus he could have brought Shandi with him from Lingo.

Ryan Stiles would be better.

I also like Drew Carey.. I also think it is a horrible choice for this show. Wow, I'm stunned. So thought John O'Leary would have been the choice, or like a poster said, at least a game show host.

Man, after years and years of watching this show, could I actually hate it enough to not watch it anymore? It's a real possibilty.

Given the names I saw floating around this job (Rosie? Todd "Press Your Luck sequel ruiner" Newton?), this isn't half bad.

Think of it this way -- he's built to take the abuse the contestants will pile on him.

I thought more about it...I will give Drew a chance. He's never been a favorite of mine, but his sit com was pretty funny. Considering the competition he was up against, I think a lot will be expected of him. I will probably watch the first week or two of shows just to see how he fits in.

I like Carey. He's funny & quick witted. And as a bonus, he appears to be a genuinely nice guy. He'll actually care if someone does well on the show. Not fake and smarmy like a regular game show host.

Certainly better than most of the names that were being bandied about.

Hell, I would have preferred Wayne Brady to Carey, and I'm no Wayne Brady fan.
