"Mad Men is AMC’s provocative new original series from writer and executive producer Matthew Weiner of The Sopranos. Set in 1960 New York, Mad Men pulls the viewer into an unexpected new world - the high-powered and glamorous “Golden Age” of advertising - where everyone is selling something and nothing is ever what you expect it to be."
Thursdays, 10pm ET on AMC

I thought the pilot was excellent.

I was kind of 'meh' on the pilot. The characters/situations didn't really engage me yet. It just kind of droned on for me... I'll give it another few shots, but I was less than impressed with the opener.

Ah, damn I missed the "pilot" episode for this, which I wanted too see. I like John Slattery & this actually sounded pretty intresting. Does anyone know if they are replaying the episode?
AMC like's to replay things 1000 times so I might get lucky. Anyways the next episode is July 26, 2007.

Funny how that works, isn't it? Exactly one week after the first episode aired...who'd a thunk!? ;)

That pretty much sums up how I felt about it. I really didn't see too much of a purpose for the show to exist. It looks nice, the actors are nice, but over all it's something that really could not keep me too engaged. I thought it was dull and boring.

I was going to wait until it came out on DVD, but I just noticed we got a new free HD on demand channel and it looks like they will be showing all of the episodes there. Heads up for anyone that has Brighthouse/Time Warner.

If you like dramas swimming with subtext viewed through a historical perspective of 1960, then Mad Men is the show for you. They wrapped up the first season, and it was very moving and touching, and melancholy.

This is the best new show I have seen in a long time.

Anyone know if a DVD willl be released? It is so worthy of re-watching.

I would have done a weekly thread, but I never got to see it until the weekends since I was watching other stuff on Thursday and Friday nights.

I caught on to this show thanks to On Demand (and double thanks for it being on HD to boot), and found myself oddly captivated by it. The way it weaved its story around actual details and events of that era made it seem more realistic and authentic (although I have no personal basis for feeling this way as it was set nearly a decade before I was born). That being said, there really isn't a "hero" to the narrative -- in fact was there a single character among the principals that wasn't an adulterer or harrasser or who wasn't dealing with (or repressing) something which made it difficult for him (and her) to function in the (then) modern world? I think the closest to such was the Bertram Cooper character, but of course he also then had to be the guy handing out copies of Ayn Rand novels to his employees.

In any event, it certainly hooked me. Please don't tell me I have to wait until next July to see what is now going to happen with the Clearasil campaign...

I found Don Draper/Dick Whitman to be an oddly compelling hero. Sure he was deeply flawed, but I found myself sypathetic towards his character most of the time, even when he did bad things.

I got my mom into the show and she really loves the period detail since this was her era. It really was a different time then. My father was the exact same age as Don/Dick and it was very accurate how the roles of men were so different then. They were oddly detached from their children and wives, whereas now men are expected to be much more involved with their families.

I was also fascinated by the woman characters in this show. I thought January Jones as Betty was a revelation. She started off as such a simple character until they slowly peeled the layers back. Peggy was also very interesting to watch as she navigated the office politics.

I would have liked to see more about Joan and Salvatore's backstories. Hopefully they will get more storylines in season 2.

I never got to see it until the weekends since I was watching other stuff on Thursday and Friday nights.
I always held off on watching the show until the weekend so I could savor it. I was always so tired on Thursday and Friday nights and I wanted to be able to really pay attention and enjoy it. This show always left me thinking about it for days afterwards.

When I saw that Christina Hendricks was
one of the leads in the series I decided
to watch....Well worth the time.
For some reason it sort of reminds me
of Remember WENN from a few years
ago. Anyways...A pleasant surprise.

What a fantastic show.

And that scene in the finale where Don is presenting to Kodak is one of my favorite scenes in any show ever.

The "Carousel" presentation was phenomenal, and the last scene in the series finale was pure genius, with the what he hoped to see and what he really saw when he got home.

Superb show and I'm glad it's coming back.

I watched the entire series this weekend. Finished the finale about a half hour ago and am already tearing through the special features on the Blu-ray. I absolutely loved this show. Agreed that the Kodak pitch in the finale was an absolutely brilliant scene.

By the way, the transfer on the Blu-ray is phenomenal.

I just started Season 1 on HD on Demand. It's a really captivating show. I like how they take care of every detail, and I'm not talking only about the set and decorations, I'm talking about the actors. This is a show really to enjoy.

We, my wife and me, just finished episode 3 :D, but we expect to finish season 1 and start season 2, whose episode 1 is On Demand, by the end of this week.

Thanks to Cablevision here in Northern Sopranos Country, AMC is not available in hi-def, so it is crappy SD for me.

My fiancee and I just finished season 1 the other day and are well into season 2 OnDemand. Season 3 starting to build up on the DVR.

We both LOVE the show and can't even imagine a night where we don't get to watch an episode before we go to bed. Guess we'll live one of those nights soon as we'll catch up quickly.

She's totally in love with Joan. She even complimented her on her job (no crying in the break room!) the other night as if she was sitting in the room with us.

Here's the thing that's fascinating to me. My fiancee is a very smart, very strong woman that detests the traditional gender roles and male domination of business and society. Yet, I guarantee you if you asked her who she would rather be - she would pick Joan over Peggy every day of the week.

Can't wait for s02ep07 tonight!
