It seems that way. I just sent you a test message to verify.

Quietly released the feature to see the impact on the server. Seems like something that we really lacked on the site and so I'd like to offer it.

More like email that's internal to the forum. Go here http://forum.dvdtalk.com/private.php (which is the link found in the upper right hand portion of the screen in the same box as the "Welcome" and last visit info).

tip: go to UserCP > Edit Options and turn on Receive Email Notification of New Private Messages and/or Show New Private Message Notification Pop-up, or it's likely you will never notice when you get a new PM (it will show 'X new messages' in the upper right corner, but it's very subtle).

Now that we've had Private Messages in place for a couple of months -- and a big thank you to Geoff for adding that in -- do we have any idea what kind of an impact it's had on server load?

I ask because the current limit for message content (1000 characters) is extremely low... and that makes it very difficult to really use the Private Message feature for what it's intended. Could we bump that up to 2000 characters? Or (dare to dream) 3000? How much of a hit would that involve?

I have a question about PMs. It says that I have 10 PMs allowed to be saved. If am saving 10 messages, what happens if somebody sends me a PM? Does it get returned to them? I ask because I am waiting a PM response from somebody and just noticed that I had 10 stored. I have since deleted most of them, but what if they already tried to reply?

If you try to send a message to somebody with a full mailbox, you'll get an error that their mailbox is full. So keep your messages cleaned up if you want to be able to receive more!

That's what I figured. I'll try re-PMing to that person to see if they got this error or if they were just ignoring me.

Thanks for turning this on Geoff. Been missing these on this site. Also thanks for the heads up on turning the notifications on.
