Receiving SPAM, DVD forum mentioned as source
Heya,
I'm fairly careful with my mail addy's...I don't like spam, and I'm pretty damn good at avoiding it.
Recently, I've been getting some new stuff. One is the typical Nigeria spam we all know and love, and another is a 'be a private eye' advert.
At the end of it, this was listed:
"Privacy Note: This email was sent to [addy deleted, cuz i'm paranoid] as a
courtesy referral from the DVD Forum of which you are a registered member.
Your private email is fully protected under all local and federal
privacy statutes. If you wish to be excluded from our private invitation,
please reply to this email and include the word "not interested" in the
subject line. Thank you for your time."
I asked for no courtesy referral...what exactly is this about?

Spammers lie. If it was from "DVD Talk" it would say it was from DVD Talk. "DVD Forum" is a generic catch-all sent en masse in hopes of hitting someone to whom it may seem relevant. By responding to the e-mail, you've now confirmed that the address is active and being read and that the keywords "DVD Forum" probably got your attention. Expect more spam. (Or some DVD Forum gave up your address -- perhaps via a contest registration -- who knows)

We never sell email addresses. So the SPAM email you got is full of BS saying that it's a courtesy referral. Unless of course there's some other DVD Forum that's disclosing email addresses.
