The first Fantastic Four made 56 Mil the first weekend. Looks like this should be around the same, right?

I thought it might be bigger since it seemed to be hyped a fairly decent amount despite the bad critic reviews.

No real surprises here. Wow, Nancy Drew must really suck. I still need to see Knocked Up.

Fantastic Four will probably have a bigger Saturday than Friday. It's a very family friendly movie. I'll bet it takes in at least $65 Million this weekend.

Just about everyone is saying that it is better than the first one (even the people who hated the first one - they may not like this one in some cases, but every comment or review I've read says that it is an improvement over the first movie, which I thought was a lot of fun).

Actually I'd expect F4 to be front loaded, but it could still crack $60 million this weekend

That sucker was tailor made for kids. I think it's going to get the typical saturday boost for the amount of families going in to watch marvel's first family.

Any front load of comic die hards would have either been pissy about the change to galactus and not watched it.

The first one did $21 Mil on Friday, and then ended up with a $56 Mil weekend. I don't think any of Marvel's comic movies have gotten a Saturday boost, except the first Spider-Man.

Surf's Up seems to be tanking. I guess it's the whole "one movie does well, the other sucks" thing that seems to come when studios do movies in twos: Volcano/Dante's Peak, Armageddon/Deep Impact, etc.

fantastic four: ROTSS do well at ole' box office in its first weekend, unlike alot of die hard fans (which I'm not) I actually liked the first one quite a bit & I am looking foward to the 2nd one coming out on DVD.
Nice to see Ocean's 13 still going strong at the box office this weekend & Its nice to see that it didn't flop.
Nancy Drew didn't do to well at the office but from the previews I have seen the movie looks like another generic kids movie & looks like another "Seen that before" type movie.

That's better than the other option...

OCEAN'S THIRTEEN
KNOCKED UP
NANCY DREW

On another note, I saw FF:ROTSS and I thought it was a great movie. I have a story to tell about the theater experience, but I'll leave that for a later thread.

60 million tops, no way in hell it'll go anywhere near 75 million.

Just checked showbizdata... it **dropped** 10% Saturday to about 20 million. Not exactly a good sign for a family-friendly/kid-oriented blockbuster... should finish around 58-60 million and probably have a final gross somewhere around the original or so.

Hmm, I'm surprised this DIDN'T do better considering how hugely it was hyped, that reviews are generally a bit better than the first and that comic-book movies are pretty huge right now. It's not a bad opening at all but lately it seems like Part 2's are expected to do better than the first.

Wonder how much Ratatouille made in that sneak peek showing staurday? Will that be added to its BO when it's released?

Finally went to Pirates for an evening showing. It was a smaller theater, but was packed and we had to sit in the second row.

Why would it go to POTC3? Other than the company that released it, what do they have to do with each other? At least in my theater, it was its own showing, not a double feature with Pirates.

The gross $$ made from sneak previews is generally added to the take of another movie released by the same company, in this case, since its a Disney movie, the money it pulled was added to the gross of Pirates 3.
