Mulcahy to Helm Scorpion King 2
I actually think this could be good if the Rock returns. I really liked the first movie, and the sequel has the potential for great stories and battles.

Shock has been tipped off that Resident Evil: Extinction director Russell Mulcahy is moving from the arid locale of one sequel to another: Universal's The Scorpion King 2.
The first film, a prequel to the studio's "Mummy" franchise, opened in 2002 to a $36 million three-day gross - it made a grand total of $91 million domestically by the time it ran its course. Regardless of the reviews it proved to Hollywood that The Rock - who was mostly seen in The Mummy Returns as a CGI'd tail-shakin' baddie - had star power.
Unfortunately, we haven't received any further word regarding the sequel's plot or casting details. A new "King" poses a tremendous opportunity for Universal to tap some serious cross-promotion as Rob Cohen heats up a third "Mummy" chapter.
Mulcahy, an Australian filmmaker, previously helmed Razorback and Highlander. He has dabbled in some mummy lore himself with Talos the Mummy in '98 and, most recently, The Curse of King Tut's Tomb.

The first Scorpion King movie was enjoyable, but it definitely could have been a better movie.
No doubt in my mind that if they treated this next movie with a bit of care, it could be a monstrous success.

I would rather see another Doom movie, but we all know the Rock won't be in that.

Only worth doing if the Rock returns to the role. He made the character and to replace him I think would just turn this into another half-baked sequel (even moreso).

"The Scorpion King needs more jocularity!"
Anyways I would like to see The Scorpion King 2 as long as the Rock returns. I'm not saying the first one was a great movie by any standard but it was indeed a guilty pleasure.
Hope they give it a shot & don't fuck it up so bad like (& I know its not exactly the same genre) like Hostel series (of course the first Hostel wasn't all that great either).
Plus the Rock needs some more dough to pay for the child support he will be having to start paying to his wife when they offically get divorced.

I liked it. It was fun but could have definitely been better.
So will Mathias finally go bad in this one? Cos his being a good guy really bothered me in the first.

Lots of Scorpion King love in this thread, I enjoyed it quite a bit myself.
Looking forward to another one as long as it is The Rock, if not they should not even bother.

You're not alone Morf. I thought it was awful, but I understand how people could like it as a guilty pleasure.

Agreed that this is a total guilty pleasure for me also. The Rock has such great charisma and energy that it's infectious; I can't help but watch him on screen. If he comes back I'm in, if not, I'm done.

I enjoyed the first one but I would rather The Rock return to the WWE.
I'm not saying hes the greatest wrestler of all-time or anything but he has great charisma & I'd like him to beat the shit out of that Cena character.

Some news people might not like: The Rock isn't in this movie. It's a prequel, and The Scorpion King will be in his mid teens to early twenties. It is being made as a "DVD original film".
