Who has successfully meshed guitar and synths better...New Order or Depeche Mode?

New Order and Depeche Mode are two of my favorite bands ever. Both of them have managed to successfully gel synthesizers and guitars beautifully. But who has done it better? NO or DM? Perfect Kiss is a masterpiece and an excellent example...but then, so is Personal Jesus

Depeche Mode has done it better and longer. Policy of Truth is ridiculous. That song kills.

Gel? DM. But I like the rougher sounding New Order stuff more.

Longer? Are you sure about that? New Order was guitar heavy before DM even thought about moving beyond the Vince Clarke new wave pop.

New Order.

For fans of both bands, can I make a suggestion? Trust me, you'll love me for it and even though they've been around since '91 or so, they can remain our little secret:

Depeche Mode has been able to be consistant for a longer period of time. New Order finally broke up, and I don't know many people who have been crazy about anything since Technique. OTOH, Playing The Angel is widely regarded as the Mode's best album since Violator.

You're right, you didn't say that. But seeing that they were doing it before DM and New Order just broke up I'll still say they did it longer.

I'm biased....I like New Order, but a can't stand Depeche Mode.

A Winner is "The Perfect Kiss"!

Well, NO has broken up so many times and taken multiple "hiatuses", I'd have to say that DM has been around longer.

But even so, you are wrong anyway, since both band's first commercial releases came in 1981.

I guess this means Bernard Sumner is free to do more vocals for Chemical Brothers then.

I agree, I guess some people give NO the upper hand because of Joy Division, but as NEW ORDER, 1981 was the starting point, same as Depeche.

New Order. Primarily because of Hooky's high-register bass work.

Was Depeche Mode even using guitars in 1981? New Order had songs that were primarily guitar based back then. I wasn't taking Joy Division into account in my thinking.

New Order meshed guitar and synths better but I like Depeche Mode more.

And Mesh sounds exactly like Depeche Mode. It's insane.

The Cars.

Earlier, and better than either one of these two.

The Cars better than New Order or Depeche Mode "Please you must be joking".The Cars could not hold a candle to one or the other.
