Can't find widescreen Cable Guy!

Decided to look at my old cable guy dvd. It's a dvd that has full screen on one side and widescreen on the other. The widescreen side was messed up, so I decided to get a new one. Went to best buy, target. Only full screen versions. Went on amazon.com and saw their description said full screen and anamorphic widescreen. Ordered it, just came yesterday. Just Full Screen! What is going on! Did they quit making these widescreen?
Anyone know where I can get the widescreen version?

That sucks, this might be one of those Columbia/Sony releases where they dropped the widescreen but kept the same UPC (like Gattaca) I think there was a thread that dealt with the issue. You'll probably have to just try to find an older copy. Great movie, I hope you can find it. I see someone at half.com actually has widescreen listed, so I'd think that would be safe.

Yeah, I think starman9000 is right. Sony/Columbia dropped the widescreen somewhere along the way on this title. I'd love an SE with commentary from Ben Stiller, Matthew Broderick, Jim Carrey, etc., but I'm not holding my breath.

So I called deep discount dvd and they said only full screen. So I guess I could get it from ebay/half.com

Animatedude, when will this SE be announced?

animatedude is probably just guessing, not saying there officially will be one.

Just look at like specialty stores like Borders and stuff that would keep old stock and wouldn't get huge batches of the title. There are definitely copies floating around and it is worth it cause its 2.35:1.

Keep trying Ebay and Amazon Marketplace. You'll eventually find a seller who knows what he has and will explicitly state this in their listing.

this is a rough movie to watch in full screen, the pan and scan is the most noticeable I've ever seen. Gives me a headache when I client at work wants to watch it.

I got mine off of ebay. Smart sellers will list it as the widescreen version since it will inevitably sell for more. I just kept emailing sellers until I found one selling the widescreen/fullscreen version.

If you don't mind it used a seller has it for sale for $5.44 shipped. We can't link to auctions here but if you paste this number into the ebay search field you'll get it: 150122295890 . $6.00 Here: 190089439180. I'm a Johnny come lately and had to do this sort of thing with several other Sony FULLSCREEN only reissues. I've still got more to find! Anyway, Good luck!

I was HOPING that but you can't be sure, they were different studios. And of course now the project is on hold/canceled.

Blame Sony for this mess, them and these repressed Full Screen rip offs. I own the original DVD, this is a great dark comedy with excellent performances, one of Jim Carrey's most underappreciated performances. Ben Stiller also directed this and he did great, casting of Matthew Broderick as the guy the cable guy torments was perfect casting. With star power behind it, even Jack Black! a SE is inevitable. one of my personal faves. I hope you can find this in Widescreen OP.

Found two copies of the Widescreen version at Best Buy today -- Everything else was Full Screen. I'm in Colorado.

Here are other movies that are hard as hell to find in widescreen:

Mary Shelley's Frankenstein
High School High
Gattaca

I'm looking for Excess Baggage and The Principal.

The odd thing about the switch to one ratio is how random it all is. For instance Bram Stoker's Dracula went from Wide/Full to just wide while Mary Shelley's Frankenstein went from Wide/Full to just full. Though most have gone fs only.

At least with Gattaca the Superbit is available.

This is why I won't be buying any Sony widescreen TVs. I think illegal copying is completely justified in matters like this too.

Yep, there seems to be no logic to their madness. Almost if they just flipped a coin to choose the staying version.

They did this with "The Quick and the Dead" too but luckily it went widescreen-only.

I believe The Principal with James Belushi was released FS only by Sony.

It seems that some of the DVDs that had an option of picking up yhe superbit disc stayed widescreen while the ones that did not have another widescreen went to fullscreen only.

I am still trying to find a widescreen Idle Hands disc.

After reading this thread I been keeping an eye out to see if I would ever come across one, and my oh my today at the new Target here they had one copy on their $5.50 wall away from the Electronics department. I placed it to the back of the stack. I also made a "backup" of my copy just in case something ever happen to it and I need to replace it.

If nobody feels illicit, you could always rent the title and swap the discs. I did that with Idle Hands, but I knew a guy working there who laughed when I asked if anyone would check or care.
