The "Ultimate Dip"

We hear all the time about double dipping for the latest and greatest edition of our favorite movie. Just wanted to see who else loves/hates to make these multiple purchases of 1 title. The One For Me is
JAWS
I purchased first on VHS...then had to have it on Laser disc...but wait they have the 20th anniversary box set at Towers for $100-gotta upgrade to that Cav beauty.....next a few years later I get Jaws on the 25th anniversary dvd and ofcouse have to upgrade that to the latest and greatest 30th anniversary
2 dvd set. Come on Universal...when are you going to make me buy it for the 6th time..I am waiting...

Damn brother... I only bought it once for $10 (the newer 2disc).

But the latest King Kong drained a lot out of me. The production diaries, theatrical 2disc, and the extended. I usually try to be careful about what I buy and upcoming releases... not that it always helps but don't we all.

I guess my "ultimate dip" crosses medium (media?) in some capacity. It's Iron Maiden's "Live After Death."

1. The LP record album (yup that thingy made of wax!)
2. The cassette tape
3. The VHS tape
4. The compact disc
5. I anxiously await the DVD!

On the plus side, there has been a few minor changes (a song or two) between each one.

Star Wars:

1. Original VHS releases
2. THX VHS Remastered releases.
3. The Special Edition VHS Boxset
4. Malaysian bootleg DVD's (which were mastered from the laserdisc release)
5. The First DVD release
6. The Super Duper Limited Edition Tin (with letterboxed originals) release
7. Blu-ray relase (TBA) ????

Heck, I even have the NPR Star Wars Trilogy radio drama on CD, and an old LP of A New Hope.

Edit: I almost forgot that I also own the new trilogy (Ep's 1-3) in both VHS and DVD

I still have that one, too.

Besides Star Wars I'm a sucker for Bruce Lee's films. I keep upgrading them to whatever newer and better transfers come out; especially ETD. I have it on VHS, LD, DVD, HD-DVD and Blu-Ray.

Any chance you can share a pic of your "ultimate dip" like the ones shared on these related threads:

My First Triple-Dip

Which DVDs will you double dip when they come out in BluRay?

Yep. Star Wars is an easy winner.

Runner up would probably be Stargate. Vhs and 3 versions on DVD.

For me it's probably the cliched Halloweed or Army Of Darkness answer.

Star Wars for me as well...

Original VHS box set
Widescreen box set that came with the book, etc.
The "black box" laserdisc box set
Special Edition trilogy box set on LD
DVD box set
"limited editions" single DVD release with the crappy non-anamorphic original versions

Wow, George Lucas sure has milked me out of a lot of money now that I see it all typed out.

Dune on VHS
Dune (Widescreen) on WHS
Dune on laserdisc
Dune on DVD
Dune: Extended Edition on DVD (R2)
Dune: Special TV Edition on DVD (R1)

And pretty much all of the Star Trek movies on VHS (plus the expanded edition of number one on VHS), laserdisc, DVD original editions, then collectors editions.

I've doubled dip on a dozen or more movies, either from VHS to DVD, DVD to DVD, or DVD to HD DVD. I have not yet triple-dipped on anything, although once Star Wars inevitably comes out in HD, I will probably get it then.

The Twilight Zone for me. First I owned the entire series on VHS, then I bought the 45 single disc volumes-sold 'em then bought the 5 sets. Shortly after that the Definitive seasons were annouced so I sold the 5 sets and bought the definitive seasons. An emergency came up last summer and I needed some quick cash so I sold those and I'm planning on getting the complete series set when a certain sale pops up in June (fingers crossed).

Mine is Aliens. As much money as I've sunk into this movie, I might as well be James Cameron's bitch.

It's my favorite movie. I was too young to see it "legally" when it came out, so I bought tickets to other movies and snuck into the theatre about ten times to see it.

Then I taped it off cable.

Then I bought the soundtrack.

Then I bought the VHS, watched it so many time it broke, then bought another one.

Then I bought a lasersdisc player to own the Director's cut. I never bought a single other LD, since I found them cumbersome and too expensive.

Then I bought a DVD player to buy the Alien Legacy Set in 1999. I believe it was my first DVD purchase.

Then I bought the Quadrilogy DVD to upgrade. I bought one of Paul Champagne's custom metal DVD boxes for the films and printed some custom covers for the movies to go into amaray cases instead of that terrible 20 foot long fold out digi-pack.

I have all the McFarlane toys, some framed posters and other artwork signed by the cast, and at one point I even owned the coin-op arcade game (I literally played it until it broke and then sold it... yes, I'm that much of a geek).

I've bought all the home videogame versions of it that have ever been released, to my knowledge (Commodore 64 old school is still the best).

I have Aliens wallpaper on my computer right now.

If Aliens is released in HD, I will probably stop waiting and buy whichever format releases it.

And lastly, James Cameron just emailed me and told me to get a life.

Just wanted to make sure you also have The Alien Saga documentary DVD, the R3 Alien head, the Best Buy exclusive disc with Alien Legacy, and the mail-in only bonus disc also with the Legacy set.

I have the doc and the mail in disc, and I actually didn't know about the BB disc. And I don;t have the head either, although it would be a holy grail for me. I was not into the region free thing when it came out, and I only went region free six months ago. Now the head is mostly OOP. I see a deal for it in the Bargains forum, and it's killing me... because I don't have an extra $200 to buy it.
