TOM AND JERRY - VOL.3 - to be released on 9/11

The cover sucks, but there's at least four classic shorts that are worthy of collection.

I don't think anyone will complete the collection...

According to Tvshowsondvd.com (http://www.tvshowsondvd.com/newsitem.cfm?NewsID=8048)

"Two shorts, “Mouse Cleaning” and “Casanova Cat,” will not be included in the third and final "Tom and Jerry Spotlight Collection" of theatrical animated shorts from the Hanna-Barbera era at MGM. Although this collection is intended for mature audiences and collectors (not for children), Warner Home Video made the decision to omit these two shorts because, regardless of their historical context and artistic value, the offensiveness of certain scenes containing inappropriate racial stereotypes would diminish the enjoyment of the Collection’s 35 other classic cartoons for a large segment of the audience."

This is ridiculous. For anyone who wants to take a look at the shorts:
Tom & Jerry: Mouse Cleaning
Tom & Jerry: Casanova Cat

That sucks major ass. Why couldn't they just put those 2 particular toons as extra's with a disclaimer reminding everyone what a different world it was back then, that the views aren't those of the WB and...yada yada.

Anyone know if volume one and two is correct on the shelves? I remember reading it somewhere that there was errors on the other volumes.

Was browsing over tvshowsondvd and saw the notice about this. Although I don't have the sets, this is disappointing: The recent Popeye release disclaimer said it best with something like "to ignore these shorts is to pretend the stereotypes didn't exist."

This is really disappointing news. What WB should do is press some discs with the two missing toons and offer them to collectors through some sort of trade-in program.

By the way, thanks for the links!

Wow. I don't really know what to say, except that it's pathetic how PC this country has become.

This certainly doesn't bode well for future Looney Tunes releases. What's next? Pulling Gone With the Wind from the shelves?

This sucks. I have these shorts on a Japanese DVD, as I bought a DVD set of 10 DVD's from Japan. Does anyone know if these are uncut? I do suspect they're edited, since I do think I remember finding other edited shorts on these releases.

Also, the laserdisc box sets (Art of Tom and Jerry Vol. 1 and 2) are these fully uncut?

It is pretty terrible. WB did such a great job on keeping Popeye unedited and now they do this horrible pc move that is just downright ridiculous. They do realize that this is a cartoon right? This is so dumb!!!!!

They ever hear of "Easter Eggs?" The regular DVD watcher will never be aware of them, but we, on the other hand...

My vote would be to offer them as a exclusive bonus disc.

does anyone have contact info ? so we can contact wb and request those 2 shorts, to buy them ?

i mean this is censorship, you can call it being pc, call it being family friendly,

but it is censorship no matter how you to try to spin it

all need to be released in it's original form, and if people are offended by the cnetent, then do not buy it , very easy, that way the eople who do want to buy it, do buy it

if wb was scared having those 2 shorts on the discs, would lower sales...

then the only solution, is to release the 2 cartoons on a seperate discs, on a special website, or phone number, for only those who request it

Could be they'll offer a replacement disc if you buy Vol.III as it is. Like they did with Vol.I and Vol.II. This way, the general public will not groan over the offensive shorts, but the die-hards (us) can have it all.

Actually, the Looney Tunes volumes are likely safe in this instance.

Looney Tunes is handled by WB's movie department.

Tom & Jerry got religated to WB's family-friendly TV department.

Is there any other region where these 2 shorts are available unedited?

Not quite - on the LD sets "The Framed Cat" and "Saturday Evening Puss" has Mammy Two-Shoes redubbed and on "Puss" she's replaced with the teenybopper babysitter; "His Mouse Friday" has Jerry's mock-African gibberish ("cut de potato," "ho'd de onions") removed so that he mouths the words silently. Otherwise the LDs are uncut. I'll bet that "His Mouse Friday" is censored on this new set, too.

Why was volume one and 2 replaced and is volume one and 2 the corrected version on the shelves today?

dizzlle01...

Those discs had edited versions of some of the cartoons, specifically Mammy Twoshoes' voice. The new discs restored the original voice over. I have them and I am happier with them not being edited. This new travesty really disappoints me - to remove two shorts completely is a shame.

It has been a comedy of errors ever since WB decided to release the Tom & Jerry shorts on DVD.

This third volume is another example of the total disregard that WB has shown towards this property.

Especially when they went through the trouble to fix earlier censorship errors. It makes no sense.
