Best phony American accent on TV?

I did this poll over a year ago, but I thought I would give it a try again with some new additions that I discovered.

I voted Jamie Bamber, I couldn't tell he wasn't from the U.S. till after I saw an interview with him pretty far into the run of the first season. Now that I know he's British I can tell sometimes because it looks like he's really over exaggerating his mouth movements in an attempt to annunciate with an American accent. He still does a hell of a job if you ask me.

I went with Dominic West because I had no idea he was British.

Definitely Hugh Laurie. If you watch him doing the "eh, wot" type of accent on Blackadder, you can't imagine him doing a credible American accent. He pulls it off very well.

I would bet that half the country still doesn't realize he's British.

I've never seen an episode of any of those shows. Guess I don't watch enough tv. Based on commercial's I've seen of House, I'll pick Laurie

British actor Paul Blackthorne plays Harry Dresden's middle American accent with ninja-like stealth. Funnily, American actor Terence Mann plays a British ghost with equal skill.

Agree 100%. Ever since I found that one out I've been very impressed with them. I can't think of it right off the top of my head but there is another one of these flip flopping accents on a tv show or a movie recently that I thought was very well done also.

Haven't seen any of the shows posted except Jericho (and Lennie's is quite good), but:

Eddie Izzard/Minnie Driver = The Riches

Yeah - Eddie Izzard does a great job of hiding it.

HBO has a couple good ones:

Ian Mcshane-Al Swearengen(deadwood)
Damian Lewis-Maj. Winters(band of brothers)

But i voted lennie James since I had no idea he was british. And I just saw that he was is snatch.

I've never heard him in an interview, but I read one where he said his accent is essentially gone from living in the US for so long.

Kinda like Anthony LaPaglia. It's getting harder with each passing year to tell he's an Aussie.

I saw the first couple episodes of The Dresden Files and was wondering if the Dresden guy was British. So it can't be that good of an accent. None of the other guys I knew weren't American until later on, hearing them in interviews or reading about it.

1000% yes.

Go on youtube and listen to one of the interviews he did with David Chase in a school or something like that.. unbelievable.

Hugh is also great as he has quite the distinctive british upper class accent.

Yeah, gotta go with Idris Elba from the Wire also. I didn't know he was English and when I heard him interviewed, I was shocked.

Also, Hugh Laurie's is pretty damn good.
