SPOOOON!!! The Tick Season 2 - 8/7/07

From TVShowsonDVD.com:

The Tick - Season 2 Announced

Posted by Gord Lacey
5/04/2007

Disney has announced the second season of The Tick for release on August 7. The 2-disc set *should* include all the season 2 episodes (we say "should" because season 1 was missing an episode due to licensing issues):

The Little Wooden Boy and the Belly of Love
Alone Together
Armless but Not Harmless
Leonardo da Vinci and His Fightin' Genius Time Commandos!
Coach Fussell's Lament
Bloomsday
Evil Sits Down for a Moment
Heroes
Ants in Pants!
The Tick Loves Santa!
The Tick vs. the Big Nothing
The Tick vs. Reno, Nevada
Grandpa Wore Tights

The set will retail for $34.99 US, or $37.99 CAN. We hope to have artwork soon.

I kinda wish they could include the "Tick Watch" promos that aired between seasons 2 and 3. Even though they were entirely recycled animation, it was all the actual voice cast (including the late great Tony Jay as Chairface) keeping the show's memory alive on the network while it was off the air.

LITTLE WOODEN BOY!!!!

That and 'Mustache' were two that always stuck out in my head. Years later, my roommate used to walk around in his boxers a lot, until my other roommate and I shamed him into stopping with repeated references to this episode ("So, do you *have* pants?") It was too funny, and he stopped pretty quick.

I also love to shout "FAUX PAS!" really loud.

Plus it has the 'Galactus' episode *and* the da Vinci one (I'm a sucker for George Washington Carver jokes). The dolphin who sounds like Kirk Douglas always makes me laugh too.

I may have to buy this season before I buy the first one.

I'm still holding off on any animated "Tick" releases in hopes that they'll clear the rights to that missing episode and include it on season 2 or 3.

It's not just wishful thinking, I believe someone "in the know" said they would try to include it eventually.

I don't mind that episode being included out-of-order in one of the later sets as long as it's included but I won't support this series on DVD unless it's released in it's entirety.

If it helps any, that missing episode is easily the weakest episode in the entire series.

I could just never be satisfied owning every episode but one. That's almost worse than a "best-of" release. It's so close to being complete yet it's not and that's frustrating.

Here's hoping they figure out a way to include it in 2 or 3.

You do know the episode is regularly shown on cable, right? It is remarkably easy to obtain if you feel the actual need to own it.

I wouldn't agree that it's the worst episode of the series, but it's the worst episode of the first season.

UltimateDisney.com has just posted the press release for the release, and it tells us that, again, one of the 13 episodes will be missing. This time, it's the second episode of the season, Alone Together, that won't be included.
Could that have done this just so, when the third season comes out, they can include the 'missing' 2 episodes in addition to the 10 third season episodes just to make it another 12-episode release?
Oh and, I assume to no one's surprise, there will be no bonus features, unless you count the new Edlund artwork for the box and a lithograph.

So, obviously they're avoiding releasing episodes which parody Fantastic Four villains.

That royally sucks. The Mole Men episode is among the worst, but the Galactus parody (Omnipitus? I can't remember) is awesome.

Plus, there's going to be a bizarre continuity jump in the episodes, where all of a sudden the moon has a big bite taken out of it.

Yeah, this time the episdoe they cut is one of the best ones...

If Venture Bros. can get away with Fantastic Four parodies, why can't The Tick?

Because Venture Bros. harnesses the infinite power of Stephen Colbert, of course.

Seriously, include the two "missing" episodes on the season 3 release and I'll GLADLY buy all three.

Until then, I won't spend any of my money on animated "Tick" DVD's.

I'm not too upset about it because there is 1 last opportunity to get these two episodes released on the season 3 release.

I'm not gonna get all up-in-arms over this, Disney has stated that they hope to include the first "missing" episode later on and I assume they'd also make an effort to eventually get this other one included as well and it would give the three releases a sense of symmetry since season 3 is only 10 episodes whereas placing the "missing" episodes on there would make 3 12-episode releases.

I won't support this show on DVD if it's not complete but I'm optimistic that it will be eventually, I just want to wait and see if that possibility becomes reality.

Omnipitus, actually.

And I do suspect they want 3 discs with 12 eps each but went about it in an odd way. "Alone Together" is easily the most important episode of the season when it comes to the show's continuity.

At least the debut of TAFT! is on there.

I too am disappointed about the missing episodes. But maybe using reverse psychology here, by buying the dvds, maybe it will sow their profitable enough to clear up the rights issues on those two episodes. Never hurts to try.

Any idea if the UK version of Season 2 will have all the eps? The UK Season 1 DVDs had all 13.

I haven't heard anything, but I'm curious - did you get an e-mail from Amazon today featuring the Tick Season 2?

I gave up on Disney releasing it awhile ago, I sold the season 1 set I got (never got the second season) and just got the UK release with all three seasons.

I was thinking about that...does it come with all the episodes? How is the quality?

It has all the episodes including the two the were dropped for the US releases and they aren't the syndicated versions like the Disney episodes. The quality is on par with the Disney set but they are PAL so you have the speed up issue. They are Region free as well. If you enjoy the series it's well worth picking up.

However, since I broke down and bought the set a week ago, expect an announcement from Disney about the third season at any moment.
