Oooh, I'm Buying That: May 2007 Previews

I started looking through the Previews last night and already found some that I am sure to purchase:

Meltdown: Definitive Collection
Top of my list for purchase as it is probably the best new story I read in the last year. Loved it when it came out in two issue format and woul like to have it all together with the extras included. If I could recommend one book for the month like Sessa, this would be the one.

Astounding Wolf-Man: Director's Cut #1 and #2
Anything Kirkman writes is worth checking out to me. Will get the #1 if I don't get it this Saturday. Otherwise, I doubt I will for the extra content.

Capes, Vol. 1: Punching the Clock
Worth reading if it is anything like Invincible.

I'm guessing you only read Invincible in trade form then?

I didn't see anything outside of a few regular titles that really got me excited. Honestly, it's kind of a bummer when that happens.

Just because Capes has been a back-up feature in the monthly Invincible for quite a while now and figured it had to be the case if you only knew one and not the other.

All I know the Capes is what I have seen in a few issues of Invincible. I haven't done the monthly for a while.

Has anyone read The Hood HC by Brian K. Vaughan or Uncanny X-Men: Rise and Fall of the Shi'ar Empire HC by Brubaker? I love their work, but not sure if either of these fall into the categories I like.

Its about a Superhero who is dying and basically how his powers have destroyed his happiness through profession and personal life, etc. Comic Book Resources had a review of the first issue. They probably do a better job of describing it without giving away the story.

DCBS specials are up. I'm getting:

America Jr. And why not? It's funny. It's inexpensive. And I edited the first 100 strips.

Immortal Iron Fist and the Uncanny X-Men hardcovers by Brubaker. Anyone read these? I need to know if they're worth getting. They're both half off, so I'm thinking at least one of them would be worth getting.

Walkin' Butterfly I'm starting to dabble in manga, and I don't know, this one sounds interesting. At least, the cover looks cool. I don't know, I just want to try something different. It's half off, so why not? Of course, I just read that this is shojo, so aimed at young girls. And since I'm not a young girl, maybe this one isn't the book for me.

B2K, I think you know of my gay love for Brubaker, so take it from me, Uncanny is utter shit. I refuse to believe he wrote it, I've read literally every single comic they guy has ever written, & it doesn't read or feel like his writing. I admit I'm a bit jaded, b/c I think nobody could make me enjoy the X-books again. But my favorite X-stories as a kid were anything w/ the Starjammers or any space adventures & that is what Bru's run is all about, yet I still think it's crap. Plus, the art is asbolutely horrendous.

Iron Fist however is excellent, & keeps getting better from issue to issue, however Bru doesn't really write it, Matt Fraction does, Bru just helped with the plotting. The series is a definite example of if you have a truly good story, you can bring back any forgotten character & make him/her great again. The art is also very very good.

Thanks, Sessa. Just in time too. I'm making my next order today.
