Warlords - Jet Li, Takeshi Kaneshiro & Andy Lau
Not sure how many fans of Asian cinema linger here but this film is going to be HUGE!!! It features 3 of the biggest actors in HK/China: Jet Li, Takeshi Kaneshiro (House of Flying Daggers, Chungking Express) & Andy Lau (Infernal Affairs, House of Flying Daggers):

You know, your description had me much more excited than that trailer. Talk about a major tease - all that did was put "The Warlords" glaringly on the map with next to nothing revealed about it, save the three alluring names mentioned.
In other words, that must have been a great teaser trailer.

well folks after the long wait... what this movie was released in Hong Kong in December 2007 (?!) - the US release is finally coming out in April from Magnet Pictures. And from what I just watched on bluray, [the UK edition (albeit cut)] this surprised me, notably Jet Li's acting - even though I noted from imdb that the international cut is 16 minutes shy of it's Hong Kong theatrical version, I'm hoping that the US cut at least is able to retain it's savagery and gore that the UK was missing. I was impressed

I have the Hong Kong DVD of WARLORDS and watched it back in 2008. I thought it was excellent and it will be nice to see on the big screen. Unfortunately, Magnet Pictures does a very poor job on these things. They released the North American cut of John Woo's RED CLIFF very quietly in a small number of theaters. It took a great deal of effort for me to see it. And it's one of those films that should be seen with a big crowd. The shortened version of RED CLIFF was a lot better than the long version and played like a real crowd-pleaser, but I saw it in a tiny, cramped near-empty theater. And RED CLIFF would, in my eyes, have far more commercial appeal than the much more downbeat WARLORDS, if advertised properly.
So they'll probably do the same deal with WARLORDS--release it quietly in advance of the DVD.
For the record, I thought WARLORDS was better than the long version of RED CLIFF, but that the shortened version of RED CLIFF (cut from five hrs. to two-and-a-half hours) is better than WARLORDS.
