Platoon 2-disc Collector's Edition ----> 6/5/07

Amazon.com is listing this (unnecessary) re-release a coming on June 5th.

http://www.amazon.com/Platoon-2-Disc...45133&sr=1-891

I'll await the specs, but from the looks of it, this seems completely unnecesary if you had the 2-disc Anniversary Edition released last year.

I don't have the previous release. Looks like a cool steelcase.

Fox is re-releasing a ton of sets in steelcases (fight club, omen, cast away, etc.) this summer. I think this is just more of the same...

Is this the fourth or fifth re-release? I've lost count now...and I cannot justify a triple/quadruple dip for simply a steelbook.

Looks similar to one of the PLATOON laserdisc releases. I didn't buy the last version, so I'll probably get this.

It appears the excitment generated over the Best Buy exclusive Steelbook of The Departed has given the studios an entirely new angle for double & triple dipping.

Since HD and BluRay aren't selling, look for a flood of SD re-releases in steelbook.

I wonder when the studios will start releasing leather bound cases like books.

I'm going to wait for the 2-disc Extreme Edition coming on June 12th. The cover for that one emphasizes Johnny Depp and has a sticker which says "featuring Oscar winner Forest Whitaker".

Although, actually, that week might be a little tight financially, so I guess I'll just check out the 2-disc "Hell is the impossibility of reason" Edition, on June 19th. That one has cover art which highlights Johnny Drama and John C. McGinley.

And then the Ultimate Edition, which is being released specially on a Thursday (June 21st) to celebrate the first day of summer, will be exactly the same, but will have limited edition variants featuring all the previous covers. But it will be missing the "Creating the 'Nam" featurette on disc two, even though it's listed on the covers.

I love the cover art, especially if it's a steelbook, but I just bought last year's release -- I can't justify re-buying it for the cool factor that will last only as long as it takes to get alphabatized on my shelf.

I have the first SE, so I might get this one for the deleted scenes and dts track. Plus, I've got to admit that is attractive packaging.

In the same boat as you. I might spring for the new version, as i really liked the look of the departed steelbook.

Damn why do I have to be a sucker for steelbooks.

No if they only did that for HD-DVD.

A bit off topic, as I've not made the leap to HD-DVD. But I wish SD-DVDs would adopt the smaller packaging of HD-DVDs.
