Richard Thompson - New Album: Sweet Warrior

Richard Fans:

I just got my hands on an advanced copy of his new album "Sweet Warrior".
It is tremendous and once again proves he has not lost a thing in nearly 40 years of making Rock n Roll music.

He's plugged in with the full band and this record really Rocks.

The downside is, I don't see him touring in the US this year other than the Bonaroo festival, it would be great to see him with a full band again.

Here are the tracks:
1. Needle and Thread
2. I'll Never Give It Up
3. Take Care The Road You Choose
4. Mr. Stupid
5. Dad's Gonna Kill Me
6. Poppy-Red
7. Bad Monkey
8. Francesca
9. Too Late To Come Fishing
10. Sneaky Boy
11. She Sang Angels To Rest
12. Johnny's Far Away
13. Guns Are The Tongues
14. Sunset Song

New album -

No new tour -

I don't think I've seen Thompson live since 2004 and I'm really starting to get antsy. If I don't get to see him do "Al Bowly's In Heaven" or "Don't Sit On My Jimmy Shands" soon I'll go nuts!

Saw him solo in Austin in March. A great show, as always. Is "Dad's Gonna Kill Me" -- the only song I've heard off it -- indicative of the album?

Although the song is defintely a Political/War Statement, it's not indicative of the whole album, but it's classic Richard. Doom, Gloom, Despair, and Whimsy all wrapped up in an electric guitar with classic Richard riffs..

I've given it three listens so far, and although I liked moments of Front Parlour Ballads and Old Kit Bag, at first blush its much better than those two and I think it could be his best in some time.

Richard + Electric Guitar = Dynamite. He does not dissapoint.

I don't know where you get your information but you're obviously a moron. Thompson is touring; I just got tickets for his show on June 17th.

Ho hum, another excellent Richard Thompson album.

Ever notice that even when he writes a not so great song, he puts a brilliant guitar solo or two in it to make it great?

Some great guitar on this one. Hopefully he'll come to LA besides the Amoeba records show.

I'm listening to "Back Street Slide" right now, a great song with fantastic lead guitar.

Album's out on the 29th. Can't wait - I loves me some Richard Thompson.
He's one of the classiest guitar players in that he's amazing, but always plays in service of the song, and not to show off.

Peter Buck of REM said he's the only guitarist whose solos are worth hearing.

Thompson is indeed out and about touring now, I've got tickets the June Show in NY!

I've been lsitening for a few weeks now, and can say the New Album is really good.

I highly recommend searching for the "A Solitary Life" documentary circulating on youtube, all about Richard. Its really good.

Here are some really nice performances (and interview clips) from Thompson's appearance at Amoeba last year.
