The Guide to the Sony Playstation
Saw this posted over at Kotaku...

This page has a PDF of this book, with tons of info about the history of the Playstation, concepts, artwork, pictures of early models and designs.

Starting to read this now, and it's pretty cool to check out. Just requires registration to download it for free. PDF is about 14 mb.

Nuh uh. It is the Nintendo Playstation.

Spoiler:
The Playstation did start out as being a cd-based add-on for the SNES similar to the SegaCD. After the SegaCD failed, Nintendo scrapped their plans for their add-on. Sony had already invested a lot of time and money into the project so they went ahead and finished it as a standalone console. I always find it amusingly ironic that Nintendo indirectly brought about their own defeat.
