Is April 13 the most packed weekend for major new release movies?

I was just looking over the showtimes for movies this weekend and noticed that this has to be one of the most packed weekends for movies I've ever seen. The strangest thing is (and this is coming from a big film fan who tries to follow release dates and promotions) I haven't heard of half of the films being released prior to the other day.

The only ones I knew about were Disturbia, Pathfinder (only know about it since I've been seeing trailers for the last year), and Perfect Stranger. I had heard a little about Aqua Teen Hunger Force, but knew nothing of Redline or Slow Burn.

When was the last time six major movies opened on the same day? I can think of some recent times when four and (on rare occasions) five major movies opened on the same day...but six????

Then they're not major new releases, are they?

About 3 weeks ago when these films opened:

TMNT
Shooter
The Last Mimzy
The Hills Have Eyes 2
Reign Over Me
Pride

All were in the top 10.

BINGO!

It's more like this is one of the last few weekends of the Dumping Fields before the summer blockbusters take over.

Yeah, 3 Weeks ago was definitely the most packed weekend for MAJOR releases I can remember in recent years...this week I only count 3 'major' releases...and 2 of them are guaranteed to suck (Aqua Teen isn't opening that wide so I wouldn't count it...and slow burn and red line are anything but 'major' releases).

I'm looking forward to Perfect Strangers. No idea how the characters will translate to the big screen, but I'm really looking forward to Bruce Willis playing Balki, and Hale Barry will be the sexiest Cousin Larry ever!

I see one big name release (Perfect Strangers) and a bunch of smaller releases (and some limited at that). And a remake of Rear Window? Gimme a break...

i got invited to a free screening of Disturbia tonight but i'll prob skip. I always get invited to movies i could care less about. Borat was prob the only one I actually had interest in.

I had totally forgotten about Pride. I just remembered the first five. Still, a lot of movies coming out this weekend that are getting decent screen counts for movies that have been hardly advertised.

I don't think that Pathfinder, Aqua Teen Hunger Force, Redline or Slow Burn will really do any business at all. ATHF is only in 800 theaters.

Redline should do good business because:

1.People perfer CG cars/car-chases/car explosions over the real thing
2.Eddie Griffin has to prove that his driving skills aren't a fluke

Yeah, Tim Matheson and Eddie Griffin sound like a box-office powerhouse. or power-nap. Whatever.

Redline looks like a crappier version of Torque, if that's actually possible.

I've seen the trailer for Disturbia more times than I've seen trailers for the other five combined. In fact, I've never even seen a trailer for Redline, Aqua Teen Hunger Force, or Slow Burn. Hell, this is the first I've heard of Slow Burn.

Many summer weekends are far more jam-packed than this one is with major releases.
