For those who missed the news

NBC's "Lights" shining brighter
By Nellie Andreeva Tomorrow at 12:51 am

NBC's "Friday Night Lights" are shining brighter.

A day before the freshman series' season finale, the network on Tuesday ordered six additional scripts of the critically praised but low rated series.

While this is short of the early second-season order NBC recently bestowed on another struggling rookie, the comedy "30 Rock," the order does strengthen "Friday"'s chances for a return next season.

"Friday" is the second NBC series on the bubble to receive a six-script order this week, following a similar pickup for veteran "Medium" Monday.

"Friday" is an adaptation of the 2004 feature about a high school football team. Kyle Chandler leads the ensemble cast of the drama, which recently won a Peabody Award.

I finally started watching this show last Sunday night and I got caught up completely by last night(21 episodes in 9 days if you're counting). It's THAT good that I kept firing off one episode after another.

Good to see the odds of a 2nd season are increasing. It's arguably the finest series on network television. And unlike Grey's Anatomy where I hate nearly every character on the show, I like everyone on Friday Night Lights. And I'll be pissed if we never get to find out what happens to them after tonight's episode.

In a perfect world, the Panthers win state and Tyra and Lyla celebrate with a hot shower together.

You ever think of taking up a new career as a TV producer. Because that is frakking genius.

But alas, I didn't think they'd end the season with them winning the title (like the movie) but now I think it's a definite possibility.

I don't expect them to win. I'd be shocked if they did.

They can't win. Why would Coach Taylor have any reason to return?

What I'm curious about is which players are seniors? I think Riggins is, but I'm not sure about the rest. How will they be worked into a potential 2nd season?

I don't watch the show, but I thought I remember reading that seniors would simply exit the series for the most part after their "senior season." They'd only return for the occasional cameo here and there unless they were integral to the plot line (i.e. they are related to another main character, they are dating someone, etc.)

Not quite. In real life (and the book)
Spoiler:
they lose to Dallas Carter in the semifinal game in Austin, not the final game in the Astrodome as shown in the movie.

Spoiler:
"final game" was intended to mean the "last game" they played. doesn't matter that it wasn't the championship game because they technically lost their "final game". sorry for the confusion.

Sorry man, what I meant to say was that if this was indeed the end of the series it would be nice if they ended it with them winning. I've read the book so I am aware what really happened...still need to see the movie though.

I agree - they can't win. It seems pretty obvious.

I think Riggins is a Sr., Smash is a Jr., and Saracen is a Soph.

Yeah, I knew about Saracen being a sophomore. Which is weird since so is Julie, yet the actors are 8 years apart in age.

Riggins could repeat his Sr year.

Hopefully if they do lose in the Final, at least someone gets a good shot in on Voodoo and knocks his ass out of the game.

I think they have a good shot. There are some good storylines to be had from seeing how everyone copes with success and the pressure to repeat.

Landry telling Matt to tell his Grandma to take the bus

The car ride down to the game in Landry's car was hilarious.

I liked the caravan with crucifictorious.

I wasn't expecting the win, but I am glad they did.
So, is coach staying, or is Street going to be head coach?
