What's up with Drew Barrymore?

All she makes now are these throwaway romantic comedies. I just saw an ad for this one with Eric Bana directed by Curtis Hanson, "Lucky You" . She just had this "Music and Lyrics" with Hugh Grant. They seem all the same!

I don't dislike Drew and think she is really very good "Donnie Darko" , "Confessions of a Dangerous Mind"..she can make good movies. I can't understand why she keeps taking these parts in moves that don't make any money because they are exactly the same romantic comedy that everyone puts out. It really makes me sick.

I don't usually make threads with negativity to an actor, but for some reason seeing her trailers for these movies are annoying me. An actor has got to have limits and has to get sick of these same roles over and over...I understand getting typecast, but this is ridiculous.

Entertainment Weekly recently had a short piece raising the very same questions. It seems she's playing it safe, but it's leading to diminishing box office returns for her. I hope she wises up soon.

I agree that these are basically the same movies over and over (that trailer for "Lucky You" almost brought up my microwave pizza), but I don't believe the romantic comedies she's making are financial failures. She's carved out a little niche for herself that's apparently profitable enough or she wouldn't keep making them. They're not home runs by any means, financially speaking, but solid base hits. I think the bigger question is: what's up with her chin? She's giving Robert Z'dar a run for his money!

Why would it make you sick? Why get so emotionally involved? Have you thought that maybe she ENJOYS making romantic comedies? She's been acting a LONG-ass time and I'd cut her some slack on her recent choices.

She's following Sandra Bullock's career path, and bullocks if it isn't working for them.

Is she still married to Tom Green? Maybe that's affecting her decision making.

No. She filed for divorce after 5 months.

I liked the screwed up stuff she did in the late 80's and early 90's (Far From Home, Motorama, Guncrazy, etc.)

What's up with Drew Barrymore?
$$$$$$ ?

I never found her to be much of an actress, so it's really no loss to me.

I guess I am one of the few people that enjoy these movies. In fact I can watch Fever Pitch and 50 First Dates over and over again. Fever Pitch is definitely one of those guilty pleasure movies for me..

All of the romantic comedies are probably being produced by her production company so she's getting money from there. She does them well, it's her niche. If she's happy with it and they're obviously making money I don't see the problem with her continuing the trend.

Bring on Charlie's Angels 3!

But her next film sounds far from Romantic Comedy (Grey Gardens).

Hasn't Lucky You been sitting on the shelf for like five years? I know I saw a trailer for it a looong time ago.

That's my feelings as well. She doesn't really affect me either way. I guess as long as she is enjoying what she is doing, go for it.

It really makes me sick that she couldn't make a marriage work. I mean, sick to my stomach.. SICK TO THE DEEPEST PARTS OF MY INNER SELF! SICK I SAY, SICK!

Really, who cares what films she chooses to do? either watch them or don't.

Well, in Drew's defense, we are talking about Tom Green. Sounds more to me like she woke up one day and realized what she had gotten herself into and got the hell out before he drug her down with him. Kind of a "Holy shit, I'm married to Tom Green!" kind of thing. I'd say she was the one who was sick to her stomach at that point.

Exactly. I don't dislike her because she's rarely in a movie I want to see.

I think she's amazingly hot.

Most of her movies still suck though.

Little effort, big payday...she's obviously just coasting through her career now. Not a bad way to make a living, but certainly disappointing from an artistic standpoint (though I don't think the star of Poison Ivy, The Amy Fisher Story and Bad Girls ever really had an "artistic" career to begin with).

I thought Green filed for divorce? I recall making jokes that someone has to be really messed up for Tom Green to not want to hang around with them anymore.
